As the changing landscape of Oil & Gas industry provides new vistas for exploring in, there are opportunities for bright talent to grab it. Jagadeesh Reddy Low carbon energy sources have a long way to go before they become significant part of energy mix. In India, installed capacity of renewables is around 30% but contributes just about 12% of actual generation. Intermittancy of generation and low reliability of wind and solar are the pain points. Hydro power is greatly influenced by monsoon. Nuclear is just about 2% of India's power mix and projects are capital intensive and have long gestation. Therefore, fossil fuels will continue to dominate for many decades and not going to go anywhere. Increasing the energy efficiency, efficient and timely implementation of projects are key to sustainability. This is where sharpness in engineering is of paramount importance as 40 to 50% of the project costs are frozen during the engineering phase. There is adequate and high calibre engineering talent pool available in various centres across the country and Bangalore and its wrather will definitely atract them.
