On March 14, JLR North America was visited by the Robo Rebels, a FIRST Tech Challenge robotics team from Saddle River Day School. The team came to JLR to spend some time with our engineers and learn about the various roles they play in the business. The team also took the opportunity to tour the facilities and see some of the exciting work happening here. As a FIRST Tech Challenge team, the Robo Rebels compete against other schools to complete both autonomous and remote-controlled challenges with a bespoke robot. Each year, the teams receive new challenges and design an all-new robot. The team took some time to demonstrate their robot and share some of their design process. You can cheer on the Robo Rebels March 17th at Hillsborough High School as they take on nearly 50 other teams to compete for the New Jersey state championship and a spot at the international competition to be held in Houston later this year. Good luck Robo Rebels, we are excited to follow your progress and we had a blast meeting with you! #wearejlr #robotcompetition

Really interesting video here of the Nissan Motor Corporation #ProPilot Assist 2.0 operating in hands-free mode on U.S. highways. There is a #DMS on the steering column, but what is informative is how much of the time the IR illuminators can be seen turned off. The assumption is that while there is a DMS installed, it isn't working for much of the time. The teachable moment here is the importance of a DMS constantly measuring #cognitive #distraction when a vehicle is operating #handsfree, because the driver can have both their head pose and eye-gaze directed at the road ahead, but their thoughts can be elsewhere. #Humanfactors scientists call this "mind wandering" and it can be detected and mitigated using DMS with real-time glance pattern analysis, but this requires a system which actually understands human behavior. Cognitive distraction will almost certainly be a factor in the investigations into Ford Motor Company's #BlueCruise by #NHTSA and #NTSB and highlights the importance of #automakers taking the role of a DMS seriously when designing safe hands-free supervised automation systems. NHTSA may also want to think about understanding how this issue can be overcome in eyes-off driving systems. Specifically, how can the human adequately perform the supervisory role, when they have been told it is safe to take their eyes off the road? https://lnkd.in/eTZWjAq6

In the middle of nowhere! Great. What to do now? Especially with a Prototype Car. What tools should we have for those #shift #drive (s)? Do we have a chase Car? Who to call when a Prototype Vehicle needs to get towed? All these details need to be planned ahead and be aligned with the status of each Vehicle. But don’t worry, We got you. #AMEC #VehicleBreakdown #RoadsideAssistance #Emergency Let's start #PrototypeCars #InnovationInTech #vehicle #testing #vehicletesting

Why is suspension tuning critical for off-road vehicles? Check out the latest simulation, where we dive into the mechanics of suspension systems in off-road racing. From tackling rough terrain to handling big jumps, a well-tuned suspension makes all the difference! Using Multibody Dynamics (MBD), we explore how stiffness and damping affect vehicle performance. Watch the simulation to see how we bring engineering to life with advanced simulation techniques! #OffRoad #Suspension #Engineering #Simulation

**New video Alert!** In this video, we introduce students to the fundamental process of vehicle development for student automotive competitions such as Formula Student. Using Simscape™, we create a basic vehicle model consisting of the body and brakes. We develop a model where a non-driven vehicle applies brakes to come to a stop when freely falling down a slope. Check it out below!

Add ✔️ robot buddy to your T-off time. Look, we know that you are all crushing on the Yarbo, but if you are in the commercial space, especially golf maintenance, the Echo is pretty cool: 🏌️ Picks up golf balls 🏌️ Drops off the golf balls so they can be washed 🏌️ Comes in mower and range picker (both wireless) And even if you're not in turf management for golf courses, you'll think this robot is pretty cool (and you might even see one soon).
