Sometimes, a simple letter can change an industry. One man's note to General Motors led to the creation of the V8 Corvette, forever altering the automobile industry. That man, known as the "Father of Corvette," was Zora Arkus-Duntov. “The letter – dubbed Thoughts Pertaining to Youth, Hot Rodders, and Chevrolet – was written by the then-assistant staff engineer on December 16, 1953, and explained how the young men in the burgeoning hot rod market were overwhelmingly opting for Ford parts in their never-ending quest for performance. Arkus-Duntov’s belief, however, was that once those young men got a bit older, they would be looking to trade in their old, home-built hot rods for something newer and nicer. I'm thrilled to share a personal milestone in my journey towards advancing automotive safety. Over the past months, I've dedicated my focus to evaluating and enhancing the Halo's durability against high-velocity impacts. Through intensive simulations and meticulous analysis using #lsdyna, I conducted a comprehensive assessment. The culmination was a rigorous crash test scenario, subjecting the #halo to a flying wheel at an astounding speed of 216 km/h. The outcomes have been incredibly gratifying. The Halo demonstrated exceptional resistance, solidifying its capability to shield against flying objects and minimize injuries in potential crashes. This milestone affirms the strength of my design approach and its potential impact on automotive safety. However, the pursuit of excellence doesn't halt here. My focus now shifts towards refining this design further. I'm committed to optimizing its structure, seeking innovative ways to trim its mass without compromising its robustness. This challenge excites me as it signifies the next chapter in evolving automotive safety measures. I'm immensely grateful for the opportunity to drive progress in this space. TEMS professionals. What are your thoughts on using a Chrysler Pacifica as a platform? I’ve been using mini-vans for well over a decade as a non-standard evac vehicle and to be honest I’ve yet to come across anything that trumps it and blends in with the environment better. I see many agencies lean towards a SUV based unit but TBH I find vans have a lot more space and as long as you’re not driving it up into the hinterlands it has more than enough power. Granted with some very minimal modifications you could turn an AWD Pacifica into a semi-improved road battle wagon by getting some more ground clearance and beefier tires. I had this thought as I’ve been using mine for years to haul training gear around. Not to mention you could always use armor to CASEVAC to the rig and it could also be utilized to move entry or other pax. The “fold flat” configuration that Chrysler/Dodge bring to the table is second to none for ease of use and rapid reconfiguration. #TEMS #TECC #police #fire #EMS

** APRIL is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. ** FUN FACT: In 1905, the SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers) was established by Henry Ford, Andrew L. Riker, Edward Birdsall, and John Wilkinson—to which they began creating standards for automobiles. In 1927, they established the regulations for steady-burning brake lamps. In 1970, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA was established and they blindly adopted the SAE's regulations without question—after FOURTY THREE YEARS of automobile innovation. Well, it's been another FIFTY FOUR YEARS of automotive innovation on top of that. For those keeping track, that's NINETY SEVEN YEARS of changes to automobiles, our roadways, and our lifestyles, without a change to this regulation. On top of that, for the past 25+ years, NHTSA's *own* *studies* have concluded that pulsing/flashing brake lamps dramatically reduce rear-end collisions by creating better eye-lead time for trailing drivers. So why is #NHTSA still conforming to: 1. an outdated regulation? 2. that they blindly adopted without question? 3. that their own studies show needs to be changed?
