🌟 Just Finished Watching "Bama Rush" on HBO Max: An Eye-Opening Documentary Experience! 🌟 I am absolutely thrilled to share my thoughts on the thought-provoking documentary "Bama Rush" that I recently had the privilege to watch on HBO Max. 🎬🍿 From the very beginning, "Bama Rush" gripped my attention and took me on an emotional journey that left me both informed and deeply moved. The documentary sheds light on the fascinating and complex world of sorority rush at the University of Alabama, uncovering the layers of tradition, friendship, and challenges that shape this unique experience. What stood out to me the most was the documentary's ability to capture the raw emotions of the young women going through rush. It offered an unfiltered look into their hopes, fears, and the personal growth they undergo during this intense process. The filmmakers brilliantly portrayed the evolution of relationships and personal discoveries, showcasing the power of unity and the importance of embracing individuality. The storytelling was impeccable (Rachel Fleit KILLED IT), blending personal narratives with insightful interviews and captivating visuals. It was clear that the filmmakers took the time to establish a genuine connection with the participants, which translated into authentic storytelling that kept me engaged throughout. As someone who values stories that provide insight into various aspects of society, culture and human experience, I couldn't recommend "Bama Rush" enough. It's not just about sorority life; it's about identity, empowerment, and the universal journey of self-discovery. Whether you're a documentary enthusiast or simply curious about the inner workings of this world, this film is a must-watch. Kudos to the entire team behind "Bama Rush" for delivering a documentary that sparks conversation, fosters understanding, and celebrates the strength of young women navigating their way through college life. 🙌📽️ If you haven't had the chance to watch it yet, I encourage you to grab some popcorn and tune in on HBO Max. Let's keep the dialogue going and share our thoughts! Have you seen "Bama Rush"? What were your key takeaways? Breaking the Silence: Embracing Voices in the Latinx Workforce# As a child, many Latinas often hear the phrase "calladita te ves más bonita" – "you look prettier when you're quiet." This phrase, steeped in machismo, has long stifled the voices of Latinas, teaching them to be seen, not heard. This sentiment, echoed by countless women, affects their self-confidence and career progression. For many Latinx professionals, this cultural suppression manifests in the workplace. They are taught to be deferential, to listen more and speak less, often to the detriment of their career advancement and self-esteem. However, the tide is turning. More Latinx individuals are recognizing the power of their voices and the value they bring to the table. Juliana Lodoño, a Colombian licensed mental health therapist, highlights that this culture not only hinders personal growth but also professional development. “The phrase implies that the quieter you are and the more you keep your head down, the greater life, the job, or the relationship might be,” she says. Yet, their voices have power, and it's essential they use them. Aliyah Rodriguez and Brittany Leitner are among those breaking these generational chains. They have seen how silence has limited the women in their families and are committed to modeling a different path for future generations. Aliyah’s intersectional identity as Black, Latino, and Afro-Caribbean brings a unique perspective on how cultures rely too heavily on women’s labor while silencing their voices. Brittany, on the other hand, actively resists the cultural pressures that demand she be subservient, choosing instead to be outspoken and assertive. In the professional world, the effects of "calladita" culture can be profound. Fabiola Miranda shares how it has led to self-censorship and fear of standing up for herself, even in the face of disrespect. This fear can hold back talented individuals from seeking promotions, negotiating salaries, or even contributing ideas in meetings. As Latinx professionals, it’s crucial they recognize and challenge these cultural norms. By embracing their voices, they not only advocate for themselves but also pave the way for the next generation to do the same. Supporting each other in breaking the silence ensures their voices are heard, respected, and valued in the American workforce. #LatinxInTheWorkforce #refinery29 #Empowerment #WorkplaceEquity #GenerationalChange

In light of the recent copyright infringement lawsuit targeting over 100 of the biggest names in reggaeton, it’s crucial to recognize the value of creative expression in the music industry. This case, which involves iconic artists like Bad Bunny and J Balvin, underscores the complex intersection between originality and influence in artistic endeavors. Artists drive cultural evolution by building on the past, blending inspirations to create something uniquely their own. While legal processes will determine the specifics of this case, it’s important to support artists who bring joy, identity, and innovation to our lives. In challenging times, let’s stand by our artists, ensuring they continue to thrive and inspire, while also advocating for fair recognition of foundational contributions. Together, we can foster an environment where creativity is celebrated, protected, and encouraged. #SupportArtists #CreativeFreedom #MusicIndustry #Reggaeton #ArtisticInnovation #taylorswift #latammsuic #latinomusic #creators

I authored a book! Funny backstory… The publisher sent me a DM on Instagram about how she wanted me to write a book. I thought it was spam. I ignored it. Then she sent me an email so I looked her up on LinkedIn and saw she was legit. My initial gut reaction was NO - it’s too soon to write a book. I’m still building NOPALERA . I always imagined writing a book many years down the road post-exit. She explained this was not going to be a book about my story. She wanted me to rally 50 Latina powerhouses in my network to provide quotes and anecdotes on different themes. It wasn’t about me. It was about US. But did I even know 50 powerhouse Latinas? I feel like I don’t have any friends because all I do is work! As I started to make a list , I realized that I DO know so many incredible fierce Latinas. I am honored to know the women within the pages of this book. VIVA LATINA is meant to be an inspiring gift for the next generation. So many of the Latino books on the market are catered to children. What about young adults? I could get behind this. I agreed on the terms they would use a Latina illustrator of my choice:) Thank You Lucia Diaz for your incredible illustrations inside the book. VIVA LATINA comes out Sept 10 and is avail for pre-order on Amazon: https://lnkd.in/gmP_k3m8 Thank you Rage Kindelsperger and the Quarto Publishing team for persisting:) Tagging all the powerhouse Latinas in the first comment below.
