Interior Design and Laser Scanning Technology
Interior designers are professionals who specialize in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing interior spaces. They work with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and the intended purpose of the space. But every good design begins with existing conditions of the building.
We recently worked with an interior designer who was providing a design for a contractor. Existing floor plans of the building did not exist and in an effort to save time, and avoid measuring by hand, our client hired VectorNet3D to provide a floor plan and an electrical layout using reality capture technology.
Historically, an interior designer would field measure using a tape measure or laser measuring tool. Sketch measurements in the field and then back model from the sketch when in the office. Collecting information in the field (dimensioning rooms, doors, windows, electrical locations, reflective ceiling plans) can be tedious and time consuming. And not to mention the risk of compounding errors when measuring by hand.
Let’s not forget about the beauty of versatility lies in the pointcloud data. Whether it's AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or other software, the data seamlessly integrates and can be used in 2D or 3D.
We see a lot of buzz on how reality capture technology is supporting markets such as manufacturing, industrial, architectural, engineering, and construction firms, but it’s important to note that there are other markets that can benefit…like design!
