We are thrilled to share the exciting news that the first #BRSR (Business Responsibility & Sustainability Report) was met with resounding acclaim at the recent board meeting of one of the leading listed companies we have had the privilege to assist. The board's enthusiastic response, showering compliments on the ESG team of the company and the adept #practisingcompanysecretary who contributed to crafting the report, marks the beginning of what promises to be a truly remarkable season for sustainability reporting. The acknowledgment from the board underscores the invaluable role of collaboration and expertise in shaping impactful sustainability initiatives. It reflects not only the diligence and dedication of the ESG team within the company but also the insightful guidance and support provided by our skilled professionals. Together, we have set a high standard for sustainability reporting, one that not only meets regulatory requirements but also drives meaningful change and inspires stakeholders. Looking ahead, there's a palpable sense of excitement as we anticipate the evolution of sustainability reporting in the years to come. With each passing year, we witness a growing appetite for data-driven insights and a deeper commitment to transparency and accountability. Over the last six months, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) team supporting the ESG Data Convergence Initiative has had the privilege of sitting down with leaders at more than fifty private equity funds to discuss the insights that they are gleaning from comparing the sustainability performance of their portfolios to the EDCI private markets benchmark. Myself and Vinay Shandal recently had the opportunity to share with New Private Markets our key takeaways from those conversations – you can learn more in the attached article, but as a brief summary:   🔎 1. Harnessing Directional Insights to Guide Prioritization. We found that sustainability leaders are appropriately using the directional insights unlocked by the benchmark to guide #prioritization within their portfolios, and provide indicative answers to strategic questions. Questions like, for which metrics should the fund celebrate progress to date? Which portfolio companies are likely to have the greatest opportunities for sustainability-related value creation? 🏅 2. The Power of Competition to Inspire Action. The power of peer benchmarking is undeniable. We heard time and again how rewarding it is for deal professionals and management teams to be able to measure and showcase with their portfolio companies the tangible #progress they have unlocked through their sustainability initiatives. 📊 3. Moving from Measurement to Management — Starting Today. While just a year or two ago, the dominant conversation was around how to collect sustainability data, the EDCI has helped shift the focus of many of today’s conversations to using the data to drive sustainability #outcomes. On climate, we heard from funds developing decarbonization playbooks and systematically increasing renewable energy usage across their portfolio while significantly reducing their operating costs. On the social side, PE leaders are rethinking their approach to employee value propositions with a view toward improving job quality and employee productivity while reducing turnover.

As ESG regulations rapidly evolve, LinkedIn has become a great ally for staying up to date. Here are some LinkedIn posting styles and thought leaders I've benefited from lately: 😍 Expert content on updates to ESG regulations, summaries of original research, and interviews. Gabriella Lovas 🌱 is producing excellent posts non-stop of these types. Definitely check out her work. 😍 Snapshot "reviews" of ESG reports. Simon Taylor recently posted a quick review of Orsted's latest 2023 ESG Report from a CSRD lens. I was just doing research on the same report, so the post was a welcome addition to my notes! 😍 Infographics and charts that give you valuable insights by comparing standards requirements at a glance. David Carlin is a master of this. 😍 For some ESG realism and "state of play" insights, I enjoy tuning in to Sasja Beslik's Live ESG updates on Fridays. Of course, these are only a handful of examples. My taste tends to lean towards expert opinions, regulations/policy analysis insights, research summaries, reporting examples and thoughtful curation.
