AI projects don’t require fewer UX resources than traditional development projects. They require more. The *average* development project has 11% UX staff https://lnkd.in/gvmpgQkt, but fewer UX resources are needed when solving a well-known problem. On the other hand, a new technology (like AI) or a new problem (how to productively employ AI in business) requires more UX share of staff to discover how to do it right. 20% of staff on an AI project should be UX professionals for proper risk management. Less UX investment than 20% and the project is bound to fall short of meeting user needs. For this reason, I was sad to see the slides shown by JPMorgan Chase’s CIO in her talk on the bank’s AI efforts https://lnkd.in/gKbrkZQh She says that she has 600 machine learning engineers and 200 AI researchers working on these projects. No UXers were mentioned (though she might have a handful). Sad and risky. For her level of investment in AI, she should have 200 UX pros hard at work finding out how to design these systems. Implementation without user research and proper design is a misallocation of resources. Nicely expressed, Jakob Nielsen Sir! It's truly uplifting to witness someone emphasizing the significance of UX in AI projects. stakeholders tend to disregard UX due to the excessive excitement surrounding technology. However, as you accurately stated, without thorough user research and design, AI implementation is prone to falling short of fulfilling user requirements. Let us aspire for more organizations to prioritize investing in UX resources before embarking on AI projects. #userexperiencedesign #team  #staffing #usability #artificialintelligence  #generativeai

Well said, Jakob Nielsen! It's refreshing to see someone highlight the importance of UX in AI projects. A lot of people tend to overlook UX because of the hype surrounding technology. However, as you rightly pointed out, without proper user research and design, AI implementation is likely to fall short of meeting user needs. Let's hope more organizations start investing in UX resources before jumping into AI projects. #userexperience #staffing #usability #artificialintelligence #generativeAI

Nothing new under the sun. UX and especially Usability Testing never get the attention it deserves. A lot of software is still designed by engineers 😳 the results are less than optimal

At best preaching to the choir, at worst preaching to an empty room, unfortunately. In most organisations, it appears, the rush to AI mirrors the Industrial Revolution, great for business but with a massive cost to humanity. AI has to be invested in (its potential is huge) but with most places already cutting back, the cost won’t come from extra funding but from savings elsewhere, namely the workforce. Short-sighted? Yes, but since when did that ever stop decision making.
