Can May-Thurner Syndrome cause blood clots? Yes, May-Thurner Syndrome (MTS), also known as iliac vein compression syndrome, can indeed cause blood clots. MTS is a rare vascular condition where an artery compresses a vein in the pelvis, hindering blood flow back to the heart. This compression can lead to blood pooling in the legs, resulting in deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a serious condition where blood clots form in the deep veins of the legs. Symptoms of DVT include: 🟣 Discolored skin on the leg 🩸 Enlarged, swollen leg veins 😣 Pain, throbbing, or tenderness in the leg 🦵 Swelling and heaviness in the leg If untreated, DVT can be life-threatening as the clot might travel to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism. Symptoms of a pulmonary embolism include chest pain, coughing up blood, rapid heartbeat, and breathing difficulties. At Milford Vascular Institute, our vascular surgeons utilize the latest intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) technology to diagnose and treat MTS effectively on an outpatient basis. Treatment involves using IVUS to place a stent in the iliac vein, reopening it to restore normal blood flow from the legs to the heart, thus preventing blood clots. Correction of PICC malposition... "US-guidance can help reduce catheter malposition during bedside PICC insertion. Patients with risk factors such as multiple previous central vein insertions, failed peripheral line insertions, left arm insertion, or high BMI should undergo thorough sonographic evaluation of the arm vessels to prevent malposition" Jang et al (2023).

Hemorrhoids affect over 10 million people each year in the US - that's about 4.4% of the population. Surprising, right? 😲 Here’s the scoop: more than 80% of individuals won’t need surgery if they stick to conservative treatments. Fiber intake, avoiding straining, and regular exercise can be the game-changers in managing hemorrhoidal disease. 😌 Ever wondered about the grades of internal hemorrhoids? Grade 1 barely bulges into the anal canal, while Grade 4 is severe and can lead to extreme pain. It's all about the size and symptoms when it comes to treatment options. 📊 If conservative methods don’t cut it, surgical procedures like rubber band ligation or hemorrhoidectomy might be on the table. These are effective but come with their own set of considerations and recovery processes. 🏥 Remember, not all misconceptions about hemorrhoids are true. Stool softeners aren’t always the fix, surgery isn’t always necessary, and sometimes, that skin tag doesn't need to go! 🚫 So, next time the topic of hemorrhoidal disease pops up, you’ll be armed with knowledge to separate facts from fiction! 💡 https://lnkd.in/eyqWb-jj

Adverse cardiovascular events are associated with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) with excessive interventricular septal thickness. The most sought after surgical treatment for patients with HCM of an IVS of this magnitude is septal myectomy. A septal myectomy is a surgical procedure to thin these walls. Reducing mitral valve regurgitation, is another benefit of thinning the septum.
