We’re excited to announce four new vessels joining our fleet of the future! 🚢 The new tankers will have LNG dual fuel propulsion capability, which, over time, will help to reduce operational CO2 emissions and associated environmental impact. The first tanker is expected to join the other recent editions to our fleet, Sir John Fisher and Lady Maria Fisher, at the end of 2025. Read more about what our Chief Technology Officer, Cyrille Levesque, and Head of Maritime Transport, Krystyna Tsochlas had to say about the new vessels: https://bit.ly/4fSeBaB #Sustainability #Maritime #OneJamesFisher

Four new vessels are joining our fleet of the future! Like the other recent additions to our fleet, Sir John Fisher and Lady Maria Fisher, they will each have LNG dual-fuel propulsion capability to help reduce operational CO2 emissions and associated environmental impact. The first of these vessels is expected to be delivered at the end of the year. Learn more about their capabilities below. #Sustainability #Maritime #OneJamesFisher

James Fisher to enhance its fleet of the future with four new state-of-the-art tanker vessels James Fisher and Sons plc has ordered four new state-of-the-art vessels from China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng Co Ltd. The contract marks a continuation of the company’s commitment to building its ‘fleet of the future’ and driving innovation and sustainability in maritime operations. The new tankers, which will carry oil products and IMO Class II chemicals, will have LNG dual fuel propulsion capability that will help to reduce operational CO2 emissions and associated environmental impact over the long-term. A number of successful features that will add to the overall sustainability of the new builds have been carried over from recent additions to the company’s fleet, vessels Sir John Fisher and Lady Maria Fisher. These include optimised hull form, waste heat recovery through cooling water and exhaust gas, 100 percent LED lighting and environmentally controlled engine room fans. In addition, the vessels will incorporate further energy efficiency measures to enhance their sustainability, in particular to address emissions in port. Steel cutting took place in November 2024, with delivery of the first tanker expected at the end of 2025. The new vessels are a key part of the company’s strategy for the future, to enhance its service offering and operational efficiency. https://lnkd.in/epteSMH6 #energy #shipbuilding #maritimeconnection #fuel #sustainable

Interesting perspective on the LNG as a maritime fuel here from Sea-LNG. They say that while the approximately 2,200 LNG-fuelled vessels and LNG carriers represent only ‘two minutes into the hour’ of the global fleet of approximately 60,000 deep sea vessels, it remains an adolescent fuel that is maturing significantly faster than other alternative bunker fuels. 2025 is looking like a big year in the fuel's development. More detail in the Manifold Times:

Nice specs. But what is the fifth generation supposed to mean? A better LNG-to-weight ratio is nice but will not make the donkey scream. Dual Fuel is hardly new and not the killer app it was supposed to be. Oh, all the green wizardry you say. Don't forget one thing - everything has a price. The more tech you put in, the more can break or go wrong. I remember when the first dual-fuel vessels were in service almost 2 decades ago. Rapid fuel switching was predicted. It hardly ever happened. Those things are not fast, not easy and the potential for things to go wrong is considerable and when that happens, money goes out the window by the pallet. Nice boat - no more. https://lnkd.in/gxQ8sSej

The idea was probably good on the design table, but something went badly wrong: "The business case for the vessels relied on the assumption that by creating demand for LNG in Scotland, market forces would deliver a local supply solution. That hasn't happened. Instead, the LNG will have to be imported from Qatar to a terminal in Kent, and then driven 460 miles to Scotland by diesel road tankers. Each ship needs to be topped up with LNG once or twice a week." What are your thoughts on this? #CleanBalticSea #CircularEconomy #LCA #LNG

🇩🇪 🚢 Germany’s maritime sector pushes for LNG in shipping In a joint statement, the Maritime LNG Platform, the German Shipowners’ Association (VDR), the German Shipbuilding and Ocean Industries Association (VSM), the Association of German Seaport Operators (ZDS) and the German Shipbrokers’ Association (ZVDS) propose three separate instruments: Germany needs an innovation offensive, a subsidisation programme for equipping ships with LNG propulsion, and uniform legal standards in ports. A cleaner future is one step closer for Portsmouth after the first bunkering transfer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the port over the weekend. The Saint-Malo, the first of two new electric-hybrid ships from Brittany Ferries soon to be entering service from the city, took on LNG fuel from the Optimus, a bunkering barge operated by Titan Clean Fuels. LNG emits significantly lower levels of harmful particulates compared to usual heavy marine fuel oils, which leads to an improvement in air quality for residents. LNG bunkering is now available to all customers sailing into and out of Portsmouth International Port. https://lnkd.in/gx9wDnBV

The Kool Baltic LNG tanker is still listed on Milford Haven port data for arrival at UK Dragon LNG on 5 January, but the ship has actually diverted south, and may be heading to South America or Asia.
