Chief People Officer & General Counsel @ Treatwell | Barrister

🔊 Treatwell has done something a little different here and we have to lean into this. Blink & you miss it. ▶ It is not every day, you see a black Executive talk about Black History Month. The reason is that...the population of said Executives is scarily small. 📈 If you look at the stats relating to hires of black talent in UK companies, the numbers decline in the senior level ranks and some stats reveal a real absence of change. It does not matter if you are FTSE100, start-up, scale-up or other. It's a little uncomfortable typing this, but this is the reality. 🚀 Committing to this series of posts, meant I had trust, confidence and a belief in the authenticity of our teams across the Treatwell world and what this means to our company, partners and customers. 🚀 I never set out in my career to sit in the position I have and I recognise the privileged position I have been entrusted with. It is truly humbling to see a conscious effort within our company to lead with meritocracy so that WHATEVER background you are from, the world learns you can thrive. I also recognise that representation does matter and I have (admittedly) not begun to post about the abundance of work we have done and continue to do in this space. More to come! Massive thank you to all of those involved in our real DEI conversations and Lily Doyle for making the time on this! GO Treatwell! #leadership #blackhistorymonth #dei #includion

James I re-call the open conversations we’ve had over the years. These sort of conversations and videos just would not have been possible in our early legal careers. Thank you so much for using your position and platform to speak to us. The comment about your Grandparents coming here and what they faced, resonates strongly with me, as my Grandparents, it’s likely had similar experiences on their arrival. We must not of course forget what our ancestors endured and of course what we took from them as valued life skills. Resilience and tenancity. I look forward to your next video. Thank you for telling your story.

Love this James! Thank you. Particularly great to listen to this morning, as I head to London to meet with WBD colleagues and contacts also aiming for the continual change you describe. Definitely a process, rather than a single end point. Galvanising words!
