The annual Gartner IT Symposium is one of the largest gatherings of enterprise technology peers and partners spanning across all industries. I've tried for years to get some of the CRE-specific vendors to get involved and attend as a way to help bridge the gap that exists between the often closed-off CRE world, and other traditional industries. This year, I know of several CRE vendors and peers who will be in attendance, which is a testament to the growth of the CRE technology space (I'm done saying "prop tech"). This years agenda is heavy on AI, and the keynote will be with none other than Jensen Huang of NVIDIA. With the recent rate cuts, higher levels of return-to-office, and companies competing to differentiate themselves from competitors, I see 2025 being an exciting and pivotal year for all things technology related. I look forward to seeing those in my network in a few short weeks! https://lnkd.in/ebvRZ4B6

Jeff Clarke's keynote highlighted the pressing challenges in the tech landscape, with 83% of data created on-premises and 50% at the edge. The forecast of an 8x surge in data center consumption by 2030 underscores the need for innovative solutions. Clarke emphasized the absence of a one-size-fits-all approach as we navigate these obstacles. One solution highlighted was the Broadcom Tomahawk 5 chip and switch with a transceiver, reducing power needs by 70%. There were other exciting advancements from Meta's Llama 3 to Hugging Face Dell Enterprise Hub as we look to tackle these industry-wide challenges.

OPTICA PECC Summit 2024: Novice View Point 💡 The Optica PECC Summit 2024, hosted by Synopsys Inc in Sunnyvale, brought together over 200 participants from across the supply chain to tackle the key challenges and explore emerging solutions in data centre connectivity. Industry heavyweights like NVIDIA, Meta, IBM, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Arista Networks and GlobalFoundries among many others took on pressing topics, from LPO vs. CPO vs. NPO debates to optical interconnects, coherent optics, and quantum computing. Julie Adams of IBM highlighted the need for standards in testing and packaging. And there was plenty of discussion around new materials for high-speed modulators by Lightwave Logic, Inc. and Pouya D. from Quantum Computing, Inc. along with advances in fiber optic by Aleksandra Boskovic from Corning Incorporated. As someone new to this field and still getting my head around the intricacies of 1.6T links, I’ll leave the deep technical analysis to the experts. Chris Maloney & Dr. Patrick Heißler have already shared their insights. What I can share is a broad view on the main themes. The tone was set by the first two speakers: Nicolaas Viljoen from Meta kicked things off with a no-nonsense breakdown of the massive cost of cluster downtime, and how, at least for the next 2-5 years, latency is not as critical as we might think. Their key point? Reliability and power efficiency are going to be essential for wider AI adoption of optical technology. That message was echoed by several speakers throughout the day. NVIDIA added a third piece to the puzzle: cost. Roughly quoting M. Ashkan Seyedi, “I’ll give you a chance if your solution is 2-3X the cost of current tech, but not if it’s 10X.” In the end, it’s clear that any solution meeting all three criteria—reliability, power efficiency, and an acceptable price point—will win, whether for specific applications or across the entire connectivity ecosystem. Thanks to Melissa Kallos from the Advanced Photonics Coalition for co-organising this successful event I would love to hear what others took away from this event. Let’s keep sharing—there’s so much to learn! #PECCSummit2024 #DataCenter #OpticalNetworking #Connectivity

💡 For anyone who wants to know how at Dell we stay ahead in understanding the future of technology: we get our knowledge right from the source! That’s the purpose of our Vendor Days, just like the latest one we had in Halle - a day dedicated to equipping our teams with the insights and tools to navigate the rapidly evolving tech landscape. We were joined by some of our incredible partners - #Cancom, #SVA, #ACP, #Bechtle, #NVIDIA, #AMD, and #Intel - who showcased their expertise and innovations, "fueling our appetite" if you will, for the topics that will shape tomorrow’s workplace. #AI was a predominant subject matter of the day, and it’s easy to see why. Its transformative potential for the modern workplace is immense, and our discussions revealed how critical it is for businesses to embrace AI thoughtfully and strategically. A big thanks to all our partners and colleagues who contributed to this exciting gathering. The Vendor Day isn’t just about information—it’s about inspiration: working closely with our partners to lead the charge in #innovation while ensuring our employees are equipped with the knowledge and tools to help our customers succeed. #DellTechEMEA #iWork4Dell Franziska Seidlitz Reiner Müller Thomas Perner-Schneider
