Last week, we welcomed students and parents to our GCSE Pathways Information Evening, where our Deputy Head (Academic) provided valuable insights and guidance.⤵️📚 We recognise that choosing the right combination of subjects is an important step. That's why we encourage students to focus on what they enjoy, what they excel in, and what they want to dedicate themselves to over the next two years. No subject is “better” than another, all options at RGS are highly regarded by universities and employers alike. Balancing workload is key, particularly when considering subjects with significant coursework elements, and students were advised to think carefully about their individual strengths and commitments. Many young people do not know what they want to do with their lives, and most will change jobs several times in their careers. That is why it's important to keep options open, consider the balance between subject choices, whether they contrast or complement each other, and ensure that subject choices reflect personal interests and aspirations. Our GCSE Pathways Information Evening is one of the various activities and talks for students to help them explore different perspectives and possible options to mould their future. #GCSE #PathwaysToSuccess

We are very excited to have just completed reaccreditation (for 8 years) with CSWE under the 2015 Educational Policy & Accreditation Standards (EPAS)! This means we will now be making transitions into the 2022 EPAS, which means you'll be seeing some new terminology. We are still an Advanced Generalist #MSW Program, which means students still don't choose a particular track, but will learn theories, methods, models, and skills and how to apply them at various systemic levels (micro, mezzo, AND macro). Our program is basically structured as two years (although it's a very full load and more students are opting to spread it out over 3 years). The first year is now called "Generalist" and focuses on basic social work theories & skills and a first year of practicum. The second year is called "Specialization" and is where Advanced Standing students will come in after they complete their bridging seminar. The specialization year builds on the first year's foundation and allows students to choose a more advanced practicum site and electives that will help them grow in directions they want to move their careers. All practicum experiences will now explicitly address multi-system level application (micro, mezzo and macro) as well. We're excited to see the ways these changes (and others coming over the next few years) will help our students learn and grow in new ways, changing the #SocialWork field into the future!
