September 17th, Patient Awareness Day. Today I’m discussing 5 easy ways by which you can improve your patient’s safety and a better outcome! ✨💙 🫂 I remember during my internship we had to take case history for around one hour, but that was only related to our field. But, when I started working what I realised was that we must always read the entire case file, their medical history, surgical history, which all hospitals they have visited, and what all treatments they have undergone. 🧾📚 Only that will be able to come to a better diagnosis and intervention plan. 🫂 During BASLP, most of us have a college where our department is isolated from the entire Hospital team. This is quite a demerit because we must always interact with other fellow professionals to understand the case completely, and also work as a team. ⚔️ Eg: If there is a case of Dysphagia and GERD, it is obvious that we might need the help of Gastro team too. So go for it! 😌 🫂 Always keep yourself updated by reading recent article articles and understanding what are the new intervention trends that’s available in our field. And also, you can learn from other fellow professional, how to take cases in a different manner! 🫂 And most of the institutions and departments do not have much of instrumental analysis, so they usually go for an informal evaluation, even though we are not sure about our diagnosis. 🩻 So for the patient safety, make sure that if an instrumental evaluation such as X-ray, Endoscopy, MRI or VFSS is required, make sure you don’t hesitate. 😎 🫂 And finally, but first you gotta identify your patient properly with the full name, hospital ID and age. 🫀 #patientawareness #medical #medicine #doctor #slp #speechpathology

Empowering individuals to achieve peak health and heal from within | Sinus And Snoring Specialist | Facial Plastic Surgeon | Wellness Physician | Rancher #HealthAndWellness #SleepScience #DietAndNutrition
I knew I wanted to be a doctor since the sixth grade. But instead of sticking to the plan and enrolling in medical school right out of college, I joined the Marines. Why? Look, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone more primed for a career in medicine than I was. My family tree is lined with medical professionals across different specialties, and how many sixth graders do you know who read Gray’s Anatomy cover to cover? This isn’t to brag, more so to show how certain I was about medicine for such a long time. Fast forward to college, where the dream of my childhood suddenly felt a lot more real—and a lot more daunting. I faced an existential crisis. Was medicine right for me? Was I ready to take that leap into med school? I decided that I had more to learn about myself and the world first. So, I did something unexpected – I joined the Marine Corps as a signals intelligence officer. However, my experiences during the Gulf War era actually pushed me further toward medicine. It became clear that that was my true calling. In 1993, I wrote to medical schools during my off hours and was accepted into the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Looking back after 30 years, I’d say it all worked out pretty well for me. That existential crisis turned out to be my catalyst for self-discovery and a pivotal moment in my life. I'm grateful for the clarity it brought, the experiences I had in the military, and the fulfilling career in medicine that followed. To any young people considering a future in medicine, I encourage you to take a similar step back before diving in. Healthcare is rewarding, but it’s also, at times, punishing with high rates of burnout. If you’re like me and have hoped for the same dream job since you were a kid, ask yourself, “Am I really going to let a sixth grader determine my career, or is there more digging for me to do first?” #Passion #Career #Medicine #Healthcare #Marines #Reflection #SelfDiscovery
