Gradual retirement or Abrupt retirement. Which do you want? Life can throw you curveballs. It can leave you in situations where you can't work because of an injury or illness. “AHHH…that’ll never happen” you say. Do a Google search for How many people are on disability in Ontario? The Top listing is from Ontario.ca from 2021 it states, ‘In Ontario, approximately 2.6 million people have a disability. This means roughly one in four Ontarians live with a disability and face... This is an Abrupt retirement. This is why Disability Insurance Matters. But why does it matter? First and foremost. Financial Protection: When you can't work, disability insurance ensures you still have income to cover your bills and living expenses. -Credit card companies don’t care if you’re sick or injured and can’t pay your bill. -Utility companies don’t care if you’re sick or injured and can’t pay your bill. Peace of Mind: -Your family cares if you’re sick or injured and you can’t pay your bill. Knowing that you have money coming in, even a little bit, makes things so much easier. What are the types of Disability Insurance: -Short-Term Disability (STD): Covers you for a limited time, usually for a few weeks to several months. -Long-Term Disability (LTD): Provides benefits for an extended period, often until retirement age. There’s also Group and Individual Disability Insurance. Here are the main differences. Group Disability Insurance: Offered by many employers. Will provide a benefit up to 66% of your income (maybe). Here is one con. Typically, there's a maximum benefit amount you can get on the group plan. I’ll bet yours has a maximum and you don’t even know it. This maximum benefit may be way lower than 66% of your regular salary. Here is one pro. It provides coverage to eligible employees at a lower cost than buying an individual policy. At least there will be some money coming in. Individual Disability Insurance: Personalized policies tailored to your specific needs, offering more comprehensive coverage. Here is one con. The cost is significantly more than through an employee benefits program. Here is one pro. You can get 66% of whatever your income is. Many companies are considering adding Disability protection to their benefits plan. Why? -Attracting Talent: Demonstrates care for employees' financial security, making your company more appealing to potential hires. -Retaining Employees: Knowing they're covered can increase employee loyalty and job satisfaction. -Legal Compliance: In some cases, providing disability insurance is required by law to meet employment regulations. I know. Lots to think about. Therein lies one of the biggest hurdles because you now ask yourself…What do I do? What should I have? How does this work? The answer is simple. I want to be your insurance guy!

If you're expected to work even when you're on holiday (look at your emails)...is it any wonder people are not taking holidays? I think taking holiday is very important for your mental health and wellbeing, regardless of how senior you are. I can understand that people should give adequate notice of their holidays so that management can plan accordingly. However, I can see why so many people have got unused holidays. I think switching off completely on some holidays is important regardless of how much you earn. Maybe I'm being naive. I'm clearly not the sort of person who wants to live to work but work to live. #worklifebalance

This is beneath you, Bill Shorten, as is your conduct throughout this week. You are causing the disability community harm. Every cent you are claiming "wasted" here is a cent you are responsible for wasting by failing to consult properly on an exposure draft, and failing to listen to us since. The community has solutions and has proposed amendments of our own. You are choosing to ignore them and shut us out. Surely the time you put into this could have been better spent meeting with – and actually listening to – the advocates and participants you are throwing under the bus? The Greens and Liberals asked for more time because the community did. Because academics did. Because legal experts did. And they did it because we also asked the Labor senators, and they refused us. So, please do tell us: Exactly which stakeholders have you met with in the last two months, Minister? Because your Government blocked the amendment Monique Ryan moved regarding holistic assessment, and the dangers of the multiple impairment issue, as written in the bill, is one of the main issues I brought to your attention in early May, detailing the specific, serious risks the bill's treatment of multiple impairments creates. Yet, your response did not acknowledge that issue, and you have been too busy calling advocates liars and scaremongers to do any of that listening you keep claiming, Bill. Why are you so intent on blocking those particular amendments? Why are you willing to hurt the disability community to do it? Uli and I asked to meet with you to talk seriously about co-design. We're still open to that meeting. We told you we know how to fight fairly. But don't try to mislead the country about what is happening here. Because this isn't fighting fairly. And the disability community is switched on enough to fact-check your claims and make noise about it. This extension is because advocates and experts demanded it. Fighting it so hard just raises more questions about why you are so scared of this bill being properly scrutinised. And whatever it costs is on you, for trying to ram it through without sufficient scrutiny or consultation in the first place. Welcome to Article 4(3) of the #CRPD, Minister. A Very Important Reminder You Barely Get PS; It is not for everyone, but could it be for you? Many a time, employees are too focused on what they can do to make money. Always hopping from job to job seeking for the ones with better offers that they forget something very important. The success of your current job affects you also! Now let that sink in for a bit. Certain times, instead of looking for green pastures because of low salaries or terrible bosses what if we do the following even though you are not comfortable where you are because the Lord wants you to a. work for the peace and prosperity of the workplace or authority He has assigned to you. b. pray to him about the prosperity of your workplace or authority, for its welfare will determine your welfare. The reputation of your workplace is also your reputation. So protect the reputation like you would protect yours c. avoid being misled by certain prophets and fortune tellers. d. endure your discomfort although it would take a while because there is something you need to learn there or certain skills you need to attain for your dream job For the Lord knows the plans He has for you. They are plans of good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope! Based on Jeremiah 29 #careeradvice #workplacesuccess #faithInwork #professionalgrowth #divineplan

When first responders succeed, our country and the communities we serve thrive. Ensuring that first responders and public servants can retire with dignity and receive the benefits they have earned is essential. The public sector frequently faces challenges with talent retention due to benefits that lag behind those offered in the private sector. It is crucial that we address this issue. #FirstResponders #PublicService #RetirementBenefits

This is actually laughable Bill Shorten. Calling out politicians who are making you actually consider the negative impacts of your #NDISBill for being out of touch with the cost of living while you make decisions that already have and will continue to bankrupt NDIS Providers until there's no one left except for the very businesses you're trying to weed out and leave participants with no services and an even worse skills shortage. Truly a bizarre comment given the NDIS you're creating and how much this impacts participants receiving less and less support, and ensuring that providers get pay cuts that won't have a hope in keeping up with inflation.

Many people associate estate planning as something they need to do later in life, after they retire or the kids are grown. But regardless of your age, putting an estate plan in place is an important step to help make sure your family, financial and medical affairs are taken care of if something were to happen to you. #EstatePlanning #ProtectYourFamily #PlanForTheFuture
