🌟 Shayla Reina and Liz represented James River Home Health & Hospice at Second Baptist Church for their 2024 National Cancer Survivors Day Celebration! 🎉 This special event on Sunday, June 2, 2024, was a beautiful tribute to the strength and perseverance of cancer survivors. 💪✨💖
Thank you Shayla, Reina, and Liz for representing James River this past Sunday at Second Baptist Church for their 2024 National Cancer Survivors Day Celebration!
🎗Cancer in children is the leading cause of disease-related death in children in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, "about 1,040 children under the age of 15 are expected to die from cancer in 2024".
While this is a hard number to share, it is a harder reality and fear that families battling childhood cancer face every day.
This is one of the many reasons we spread awareness about childhood cancers, honor our angels, and fund research toward a cure.
Together we can make a difference and remind these brave warriors and their families that they are not alone in this battle. #TogetherWeFight!

In the face of adversity, I'm committed to selflessly partnering with those who are willing to find the strength & #determination necessary to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by #ColorectalCancer (CRC). When we come together as a community, supporting one another with knowledge & awareness, we have the power to change the course of this disease.
It remains very disheartening that CRC often goes undetected until it reaches advanced stages, leaving individuals with limited treatment options. But let us not lose #hope, for early detection holds the key to successful treatment & improved outcomes.
We must also acknowledge the stark reality that CRC has disproportionately affected the Black community, particularly Black men, for far too long. This is a deep-seated injustice that cannot be ignored. However, in the midst of these challenges, we find inspiration in the stories shared by those--in this specific podcast for instance--who have experienced the impact of this preventable, beatable, & treatable disease firsthand.
I am incredibly humbled & honored to be featured in this powerful podcast episode led by Dr. Millicent Ruffin & Sissy Siero. Together, we are shining a light on the bone-chilling experiences of individuals who have faced CRC head-on. By amplifying their voices, we aim to raise awareness & ignite a collective call to action.
Complementing the Colorectal Cancer Equity Foundation's mission, we're grateful to partner with Corning Incorporated. Through our collaboration, we are working tirelessly to bring CRC awareness to every corner of our nation, particularly in areas burdened by unacceptable health inequities.
Stay tuned for the impact we make in 2024; we're just getting started!

Black Americans have one of the highest chances of getting and dying from colon cancer. In this episode of Vital Voices our cohosts speak with Dr. Charles Rogers about his work in changing colon cancer outcomes in the Black community. We also get personal and speak with one of our own, a Corning colleague of 20 years, as she shares her husband’s cancer story.

A common sentence that our families say? "There's life before the diagnosis, and there's life after."
For 308 of our families, May means bringing awareness about the most critical part of the whole family's lives: brain cancer.
A childhood cancer diagnosis changes every aspect of a family's life. It's not just about treatment options and doctors. In addition to chemo and treatments and figuring out medical bills, it means questions about every aspect of every day life. Can Mom or Dad continue working? Who'll help brother or sister get to school or practice? How many weeks can we be away from home if the treatment center isn't close by?
This May, we ask you to keep every one of our 2,300+ children and their families in mind, but especially those struggling with a brain cancer diagnosis. You can make a difference for so many children on their cancer journey in the Carolinas. Learn more about what we do and how we help at https://lnkd.in/eWrE_gd2.
🎇 September is when we #gogold for Pediatric Cancer Awareness! My niece, Vara, was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor at the age of 9. Eight years later, she's cancer-free, and for that, we are incredibly grateful—to her mother, her medical team and her incredible community. To say her strength, courage, and spirit are inspiring could never do justice to her experiences as a pediatric cancer patient, as a child with a terrifying, life-threatening disease. Today, she shares her story to raise awareness, encourage research, and promote philanthropy—an act of bravery in and of itself. You can catch a glimpse of her infectious personality in the video linked below - she's is as hilarious and special as described and just about the coolest person I know.
I hold the experiences of families very close, when I think about Pediatric Cancer. Diagnosis and treatment can be so isolating and it’s difficult to describe the experience and longer-term effects to those who aren't a part of it or don't want to understand because its just too much to process. Organizations like Team Impact play a pivotal role, not only by creating wonderful experiences for these kids but also by helping communities understand, empathize, and embrace these remarkable young individuals and their families. And I hope these experiences help people see what a difference it can make when we reach out to people impacted by illness and the longer-term health and social impacts, often unseen, childhood cancer can create.
We honor all of the kids and families impacted by pediatric cancer this month, and every month. Let’s continue to find safe and effective treatments that provide hope to families impacted by these horrible illnesses. #PediatricCancerAwareness#TeamImpact

September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness month. As many of you know I wear Gold shoes every day to raise awareness. Today I am sharing a video from Team Impact and the teammates who nationally have kids impacted by cancer on their team. Their support has been invaluable for my daughter, Vara. So thankful Vara is cancer free at this time, and thinking of all we have lost along the way and honoring them today and in September. Let's honor those who have lost their battle and continue to fight for a cure. #PediatricCancerAwareness#TeamImpact#GoldShoesForKids
