Unseen potential hides beneath the uniform. Consider this: a military veteran walks into your office for a job interview. They're not wearing a suit or carrying a briefcase, but a uniform adorned with years of valuable training, resilience, adaptability, leadership and unrivalled communication skills. Many businesses overlook this pool of talent, focusing on traditional qualifications. Yet, it's time to shift the lens. Hidden behind that uniform is an individual trained to perform under pressure, adapt to changing environments, and lead teams. They've honed their skills in the toughest classrooms imaginable. You’ve only had to watch the recent Channel 4 documentary – Evacuation for glimpse. Imagine the value they could bring to your business. Veterans are not just soldiers, sailors and aviators. They're strategists, logisticians, engineers, project managers, technicians, medics, IT & Cyber specialists and much more. They've navigated through storms, both literal and metaphorical, and emerged stronger. And they can do the same for your company. Don't just see the uniform. See the potential. Let's start valuing the unique skill sets that veterans bring to our workforce. Look past the uniform, and you might just find your next star employee. #leadership #interview #talent #veterans #serviceleavers www.lookpasttheuniform.com
Well said. I can’t explain how soul destroying it is to be overlooked for a role you would excel in because an employer sees whats on paper and not under your beret. When I was medically discharged having worked as an Intelligence Analyst and interpreter with all the security clearances and experience under my belt all employment agencies would offer me was basic admin work, even getting a project management qualification didn’t improve the situation. Also as Veterans we are used to working as teams we don’t blow our own trumpets but that is what is required when applying for jobs and it’s something we are terrible at.
Well said James, great post.
I agree with Adam.

1yMaybe I’m being pessimistic. Seems a strange name for the website. The uniform makes us who we are. The uniform is what defines us. The uniform should be the selling point, not something to look past.
