Sorry for the long post but I can’t resist sharing a personal success story that is very close to home - one that doesn’t center around me. My daughter Nicole Ryan (Atkinson) has been a sometimes hesitant entrepreneur despite her natural talents and gift to connect with what what motivates people to improve their lives. There are several things that separate her from the majority of the working world that I know - drive, humility, honesty, authenticity, faith, integrity, etc…, but the one that stands out the most is perseverance. This is because everything she does is for a higher purpose. That purpose is providing the best life possible for their 20 month old baby girl, Sloane, who is the love of our lives.
She and her husband have had more than their fair share of setbacks but when she gets knocked down she gets up again and never looks back. During Covid she started an extremely successful personal training business to help those who couldn’t go to a gym stay in the best shape of their lives. After Covid, she started, and still operates, Sloane’s Sourdough + Baked Goods, a microbakery aimed at those settling for store bought sourdough bread and baked goods. After all, being born and raised in the Bay Area she knows what good looks like and tastes like.
Most recently, being a health minded person despite being a baked goods dealer ;-), she found another business that she believes in sharing with those on a journey to better personal health - Arbonne. She invested 6 months trying the products out personally to see if they truly delivered on their promise. She also recruited me to the cause to see how they impacted an old guy like me. Her before and after pictures speak for themselves and it helped me get back to my high school graduation weight of 165lbs with more lean muscle tone than ever. As someone who struggled to lose belly fat despite hours in the gym, it has now all but disappeared despite my addiction to her cheesy jalãpeno sourdough bread. But what makes me the most proud is the resilience and personal growth she has demonstrated during these difficult times. Nicole dove into the deep end and took on the new challenge head first making District Manager in August and just shared her story on an Arbonne call with over 580 reps across the country. Not surprisingly, it was a huge success and served as motivation to those reps who were struggling with to keep going.
To say that I am a proud parent is a huge understatement! My own professional accomplishments pale compared to the pride I have for raising not one, but two daughters (my other daughter is a successful oncology nurse in Southern California) that serve the noble purpose of optimizing peoples health and happiness. They both learned that successful people don’t retreat in the face of adversity, but lean in and keep driving forward to achieve their purpose.
