I get a good chuckle every time I see someone at a dealership, regardless of their position, post in their feed that they are hiring technicians. 😂 I don't usually say this out loud (sometimes I do, unintentionally...lol), but in my head I'm saying "get in line!". OF COURSE you're looking for technicians!! The question though, is whether you are doing anything different to attract (and keep) the talent you want?!? If "Post & Pray" is your sourcing strategy, well, that's like taking a water pistol to war. It's a really bad approach. No disrespect HR, but 90% of HR teams are tactical. For most, HR is all about compliance and administration (not strategy, organizational alignment, or cultural branding). 💡 Recruiting used to be an HR function...today, if you're recruiting "high demand/low supply" talent, then it should be a marketing function. You have to go out and reach your audience and put your "retail recruiting" approach to bed. If you're betting on someone walking in the door to shop around, you'll be a living, breathing definition of insanity. 📣 Vehicle Technicians - Get Your CV Noticed! Want your CV to stand out? Here’s my advice on how to make it work for you: 1. Show Off Your Skills Don’t just say “carried out repairs” - explain what you specialise in. Whether it’s diagnostics, electrics, or air con, highlight the tools you used and the problems you solved. Example: “Expert in diagnosing and programming vehicle modules using advanced diagnostic tools on a wide range of makes and models.” This tells recruiters exactly what you bring to the workshop. 2. Highlight Your Brand Expertise Worked at a dealership? Mention any brand-specific training or tools you used. It shows you’re not just any mechanic - you’re a specialist with real brand knowledge. 3. Use Specialist Agencies Skip the mass CV blast. Stick to 1 or 2 specialist automotive agencies that know the industry inside out. They’ll avoid sending your CV to the same employer multiple times and will get you in front of the right people.
