It's okay to ask for help even if you're already feeling good!
I see more and more people seek help for their career as well as their personal lives and I think that's fantastic.
Having a mentor, coach, or trainer can be so helpful for making progress more quickly and in exactly the direction you choose. And no, it's not indulgent.
Think about it: you want to run your first marathon. You could just lace up your shoes and start running. You could use a training plan from a running magazine to structure your workouts towards achieving a specific goal, e.g. running the entire distance without stopping.
Or you could get a trainer who helps by:
• creating a tailored plan that suits your level of fitness and strength
• understanding your goal and knows how to achieve it
• keeping you from undertraining (risk of not finishing)
• keeping you from overtraining (risk of injury)
• ensuring your plan fits into your life
I've had professional running and triathlon coaches for several years and it's been so helpful. Not just for achieving my goals, but because of one critical factor: They know so much more about how I should train, when I should do what workout, and how to build my strength and fitness than I do.
They are professionals and they have experience. They have all been athletes for many years, so they know what I'm trying to do and they know how to push me.
My running coach whom I've worked with for the last six months is someone I chose specifically because she:
• is an ultra-runner, so understands trail running and long races
• is a mum to a young baby and understands sleep deprivation and unpredictable days
• had a very similar birth experience (emergency c-section), which means she knows what challenges I am dealing with when it comes to core strength and more
Having someone help you goes beyond running or other hobbies, though.
A number of friends and people in my network choose to work with mentors and coaches for their professional careers. They get help to become better presenters, learn negotiation tactics, improve their sales pitches, and more.
Have YOU considered working with a coach? If so, what's holding you back? What questions do you have that you still want answers to?

5moI find your comment a bit disrespectful ... "still putting out cones"? ... yep ... thats all we do ... arrange a landing strip for a distressed plane. Get your facts right and try a different approach next time ... as for working with tje players day to day and face to face rather tha behind a desk just coz it pays more ... a definite YES !!!
