Lawtech, the use of technology in the legal sector, is gaining momentum in the UK. With the acceleration of generative AI, legal tech companies are revolutionising the profession. In the past six months, there has been a surge in legal tech M&A activity, indicating the growing interest in this field. Big Tech giants like Microsoft and Google are investing in legal tech companies, while the UK's top law firms are embracing legal tech and running accelerator programmes such as Slaughter and May's Collaborate and A&O Shearman's Fuse. They are also investing in chatbots for their work. It has been suggested that as more work gets automated, the billable hours system may become obsolete. Government numbers show that of the 356 legal tech companies operating in Britain, 254 are UK-founded and they have secured investment of more than £1.38bn. #legal #law #legaltech #technology #ai

Day 1 of TechLaw.Fest was incredible! With over 1,000 lawyers buzzing with energy, the excitement for legal technology and its role in shaping the future of law was unmistakable. The main stage session, featuring Edwin Tong SC, Aedit Abdullah, and Mike Yeh, offered three distinct takeaways that stood out: 1. The Legal Tech Journey: From Paginators and Tellex machines to the 286 computers of the 90s, the profession has always evolved with technology. But as Mr. Tong emphasized, in the last six years, technology’s infiltration into legal work has accelerated at an unprecedented pace. The message was clear: the analogue era is over and it's time to embrace technology in practice as a force multiplier. 2. A Technological Revolution: Justice Aedit Abdullah shared his personal reflections on being on the cusp of technological change during his early legal career, and how we’re at a similar tipping point today. This time, the transformation is driven by AI and digital tools, which are essential for maximizing legal productivity. 3. Adapting to Stay Competitive: Mike Yeh underscored that the ship has sailed on resisting tech adoption. Law firms must integrate AI and digital platforms into their workflows to remain tech-competitive. The firms that succeed in this shift are the ones who will attract clients and win cases with greater efficiency. These insights perfectly set the stage for Lupl’s exciting collaboration with Microsoft and the Ministry of Law, Singapore to launch Copilot for SG Law Firms. This initiative will provide law firms in Singapore with critical AI-powered tools through the Legal Technology Platform. It’s not just about embracing tech—it’s about staying ahead, and with government funding covering up to 70% of costs over the next two years, there’s no better time for firms to make this leap ➡ https://lnkd.in/gncJ8DjN We at Lupl are thrilled by the overwhelmingly positive feedback we’ve received so far, and we can’t wait to see more firms integrate this solution into their practice. 🚀 If you’re attending #TechLawFest please visit with the Lupl team! Let’s talk about how we can help your firm thrive in this new era of legal technology. #GenerativeAI #copilot #copilotforlaw

Microsoft Copilot to be integrated into Singapore’s legal technology platform. Lawyers in Singapore now have access to Microsoft’s generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) tool Copilot, but are reminded about the importance of human oversight even as they embrace the technology. The tech platform allows lawyers to view and track common work processes, such as document drafts, team discussions, client instructions, and administrative functions such as billing. Its integration with Copilot is one of the first involving a sector-specific technology system in Singapore, according to a statement jointly released by the Law Ministry, Lupl, and Microsoft. https://lnkd.in/eq-tiwZm #LegalTechTalk #LegalTech #Legal #Law #Ai #Productlaunch

Last week on June 6th, 2024, I had the privilege to attend Balkan Legal Forum 2024 as a speaker to the panel named impact of #AI and #Legaltech on the practice of law. We had a very fruitful panel discussion around the AI hype in legal services vs. the reality, commercial product availability, challenges and opportunities for in-house legal departments as well as local and/or regional law firms, and how will AI disrupt legal industry in the upcoming period. It was a good opportunity for me to share some good examples, our vision and showcase how #Microsoft legal department is digitally transforming in the practice of law along with its back-office operations by embracing AI. Thanks to Alexandru Birsan for his excellent moderation of this great session. Also, special thanks to other panelists Sébastien Bardou, George Dimitrov, and Tijana Kojovic for the wonderful discussion. Last but not least, thanks to the organizers Borislav Boyanov and Stephen Revell for hosting and inviting me to this great event. #msftadvocate #ai #artificialintelligence #responsibleAI #legaltech #digitaltransformation
