The tender process is chaos. And it's undermining construction projects and letting clients down. If you've followed me for a while, you'll know I've spoken about this before but this is different. In this video I've shared, in detail, a recent experience Evolution5 | Construction & Property Consultants had of tendering a construction project worth IRO £3m. The whole process was flawed to the point it's hard to imagine any contractor would have been able to submit a quality proposal that they could realistically deliver! Another example of the sheer range of work the contracting team carry out for clients. The team have been undertaking work to repair and replace hoarding at this mothballed site. Damaged and deteriorating site hoarding can quickly become an eyesore and importantly compromise security. I could go chapter and verse about how ISG's recent demise is evidence that the industry needs to undergo serious change - especially when it comes to risk and reward. However, let's instead turn our attention to what happens to halted projects. How do you move forward when your contractor falls into administration and as the client, you're left with a partially completed build that needs to be finished? It's not always easy to find a new contractor prepared to take over part way through a project. Construction management is a procurement route that lends itself brilliantly to such scenarios. Yet, in my opinion, is still drastically underutilised. Over the years Evolution5 | Construction & Property Consultants has used construction management to help clients get their projects to completion after their appointed contractor has ceased trading. A commonly overlooked benefit is that it can be possible for trade subcontractors to continue delivering their services (albeit after some unavoidable delays whilst the legalities of administration are dealt with), reducing their losses and maintaining continuity.
