🔹 Enjoy Your Downtime: Take time to relax and have fun, just like enjoying the flavours of your meal.
🔹 Adjust When Needed: If things feel off, make changes. Find what works best for you.

What are the ingredients of an “amazing day”?
Getting excited about the summer holidays, my daughter wrote a “Cornwall amazing day” list and stuck it on our fridge. I realized the striking simplicity in her wishes to create an “amazing day”:
1. 🥞 Pancakes
2. 🛝 Play
3. 🍦 Get ice cream
4. 🚶♀️ Big walk
5. 🌭 Hot dogs
6. 🍿 Eating marshmallows and movie
Interestingly, this list reminded me of what employees seek in their workplace to feel engaged and satisfied:
1. ✅ Meaningful tasks (movie - probably Frozen or Matilda!)
2. ⚖️ Work-life balance (Play)
3. 🤝 Collaborative culture (Getting ice cream together at the beach and sharing the flavours together)
4. 💰 Fair compensation (Pancakes, marshmallows, hot dogs)
5. 🌟 Positive work environment (being with all her family to tackle big Cornish hills on a big walk)
This alignment between a child’s desires for an amazing day and an employee's needs for good work underscores a profound principle: the best things in life are often the simplest.

A manager's work in any industry is challenging, even more so in the restaurant business.
The search for work-life balance Is a hot topic in our industry and is not an easy one to solve.
My personal experience shows the following:
Eliminate the drink after work and go home , get some sleep and wake up early.
if you can't have a personal life in the afternoon like in most industries, you have to create one in the morning.
Get up early, eat breakfast with your family (if married), go for a walk or get some exercise, go for a coffee with a friend, read a book, do your personal chores. If you work at 13:00 or 16:00 like most of us do in restaurants you have plenty of time to do all that (trust me I do it and I have a side hustle as well) and relax . By the time you have to go to work , you will have accomplished so many things that you will go to work much more energized and happy.
Now you might start getting tired a bit earlier than normally in the beginning of this routine, but once you get into the habit you will love it and won't even feel like going out after a long day of work.

Today definitely feels like a coffee day.
So many different ways to blend water, coffee beans and milk. So many different (but delicious) results.
If one of your goals for 2024 is to create a better work-life balance then remember this:
☕balance, blend or integration are just different words for finding the mix that works for you
☕choose what works for you - it's your work and your life
☕while you might have your go-to favourite coffee, sometime you need to shake it up a bit and try something different for a bit. Be open to trying new things and seeing what works for you.
(And, according to my youngest, you can make frothy milk for your coffee just by shaking it violently in the bottle. What could possibly go wrong with that..........😬😂)
