I’m delighted to share the next chapter of our derelict property series. In this episode, we’re focusing on a special project located on Shandon Street, a building that dates back to the 1700s. Over the years, this property has seen Cork’s rich history unfold and once served as a family-run greengrocer, with apartments on the upper floors rented to workers from the old Dunlops factory. After sitting empty for 15 years, we’re breathing new life into it. Despite its long period of vacancy, initial inspections have shown that the roof has kept the interior largely intact, with minimal water damage. Of course, there are areas needing urgent attention, like rotten beams, but we’re already working to restore these. We’ll be reimagining the space—moving kitchens and living areas to the front, where we can take full advantage of the south-facing windows and stunning river views. Bedrooms will shift to the rear for more privacy. Bringing this beautiful building back to life will contribute a net housing gain to the market.
