Automated flow chemistry platforms equipped with real-time process analytics facilitate self-optimization, automated reaction model building, dynamic experiments, and the implementation of process control strategies. Furthermore, the adoption of modular slug flow reactors enables a reduction in materials required for optimization campaigns. The integration of data-driven workflows and advanced modeling techniques facilitates not only a deeper understanding and optimization of chemical processes but also significant time and resource savings within the pharmaceutical industry.' Jason Dutton, David Wilson and Sarah Wengryniuk's team have just published a great paper on a new method for direct C-H amination of heteroarenes! (and here's a cover design to go with it!) Their method simplifies the process of adding nitrogen atoms to specific positions on ring structures, key components in many pharmaceutical compounds. Here are some key findings from the research: ⏣ Uses an iodine-based reagent to add nitrogen to specific sites on heteroarenes, without the need for pre-oxidation or additional preparation steps. ⏣ Allows direct amination at both the C2 and C4 positions, providing greater flexibility in the creation of complex nitrogen-containing compounds. ⏣ Efficient, operates under mild conditions and produces high yields of desired products. "The past couple of decades have seen a nearly exponential growth in the number of new therapeutic agents that have their origin in pharmaceutical biotechnology. A study in Crystal Growth & Design introduced a geometry-based procedure to identify slip systems in molecular crystals, improving the design of energetic materials. Another study in Powder Diffraction explored the surface properties of a novel quercetin solvate, validating findings with Atomic Force Microscopy.
