I love knowing that my experience in finance, HR, operations, systems and processes can help make an organisation more efficient and can free you leaders up to do what it is you are good at. I offer an initial 'efficiency audit' which reviews all of your systems and processes. I will make recommendations and can also offer additional ongoing support on an ad-hoc or permanent basis. How working in the non profit sector for 25 years helps me now in running a small business for social impact - - for the last 10 years in employment, I worked in a small team. I was the second member of staff, we all did a bit of everything. So it wasn’t a big jump to being a team of one. I am now HR, finance, marketing, CEO, coach, facilitator, trainer, cleaner, admin, IT… - in my whole career, every penny counted and had to be accounted for. Budgeting well and effectively meant more for the people we worked with. As a small business knowing my cash flow, budget, and expenditure is crucial. - I never earnt very much (in fact I never even reached the national average salary) so when I started working for myself it didn’t feel like a huge drop in salary or a massive financial risk. - I spent 25 years surrounded by people who really cared about making a positive difference in the world. They cared about that more than status, career, and money. They were driven by social injustice and got involved in bigger than self thinking and doing. "We've just completed a strategic planning process and are now hiring a Director of Development to increase our revenue to support our growth." ❌ If you don't have a fundraising team in place, you need to hire a fundraiser or a consultant BEFORE you start your strategic plan. They can assess your current fundraising efforts, determine what realistic and sustainable growth looks like, map the cost of your programs to funding opportunities, talk to current funders, and make sure that your strategic plan isn't going to be a pipe dream. Spending months on a strategic plan and then shopping it around to funders to see who will bite isn't going to work. I will never understand how organizations that are so concerned about raising money treat fundraising like an after thought. ...
