🐵 In honor of #WorldChimpanzeeDay on July 14, we're sharing some of the top chimpanzee behaviors that Jane observed in Gombe, Tanzania! #DidYouKnow that chimpanzees are omnivores? When Dr. Jane Goodall observed a chimpanzee eating meat in 1960, it was a major shift from the belief that chimpanzees only ate plants. And we don't just mean termites — chimpanzees have been known to hunt smaller animals like bushpigs and small monkeys. We now know meat only comprises a very small fraction of a chimpanzee's diet, perhaps only 3%. They mostly eat plants, fruits, and nuts! 🌱🍌🥜 🥭🍇🍉 Help us feed the chimpanzees of JGI's Tchimpounga Sanctuary lots of tasty fruits by becoming a Chimp Guardian today >> https://lnkd.in/e9MVSYnD 📸 credit: Stephano Lihedule

Ever wondered what makes Yemeni Sidr Honey so special? It's all thanks to the untouched terrains of Yemen, where wild sidr trees (Christ's thorn) bloom. From these trees, bees craft a honey rich in flavor and medicinal properties! With Sweet Health, you'll experience this honey as it's meant to be - pure and naturally extracted without any chemical interference. What distinguishes our Yemeni Sidr Honey from others? 1️⃣ Our Sidr honey is raw which means it keeps all its unique nutrients and vitamins. 2️⃣ Rigorous testing and traditional farming methods passed down for generations. 3️⃣ Our honey is rich, aromatic, and robust flavour that is both buttery and creamy. While other options exist, they simply don't compare. Try it and experience an unparalleled honey sensation yourself! - sweethealth.co.uk #health #honey #organic #organicfarming #naturalwellness

Novel foods - really so new? The consumption of insects (entomophagy) is by no means an invention of modern times. There are already references to the consumption of locusts in the Bible and the Koran. There is evidence of the consumption of locusts from Assyria as early as 700 BC. The Greeks and Romans were also known for their preference for certain insect larvae. To this day, the consumption of insects is widespread in many parts of the world and enriches the daily diet. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) advocates the consumption of insects in view of the growing world population. In Asia, Africa, North, Central and South America, even among the indigenous people of Australia, insects are an integral part of the cuisine. So why is there resistance to the consumption and market introduction of edible insects in Europe? There is a developed industry for insects as food, but mainly for the animal feed market. #research #science #edibleinsects #novelfood #berlin #insectsasfood #entofood #europa #now

Non-vegetarian and non-vegan preferences aside, whether baking a cake for an evening snack, preparing a birthday treat, scrambling something up for breakfast, or fixing a quick dinner, eggs have become a staple for many Sri Lankans, just as they have around the world. While there are no data-backed reports to quantify the shift, the local economic crisis has led to many Sri Lankans increasingly relying on eggs as a primary source of protein, reducing seafood and meats due to their higher costs. This trend has been confirmed by both the Ministry of Agriculture and the Department of Animal Production and Health (DAPH). Desert dates (Balanites aegyptiaca) are small, oval fruits from a resilient tree native to arid regions of Africa and the Middle East. These fruits are rich in carbohydrates, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They are used in traditional medicine for their anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and anti-microbial properties. In culinary practices, they are consumed raw, dried, or cooked, and used in beverages and jams. The desert date tree is economically and ecologically significant, providing essential resources for local communities in harsh environments.
