Volunteers are the lifeblood of any ministry, but recruiting them can feel like an uphill battle. Have you noticed fewer people stepping up lately? In my latest blog post, I explore why recruiting volunteers is harder than ever and offer 5 simple strategies to turn things around. Here’s a preview: 1. Make it easy for people to take the first step with one-time, low-risk opportunities. 2. Clearly connect every role to the church’s mission. 3. Publicly celebrate your volunteers to inspire others. By creating easy entry points, communicating the mission, and recognizing volunteers, you can build a thriving volunteer base that will help move your ministry forward. Don’t miss the full post with all 5 tips! Read it here:

One of my top recommendations for anyone curious to pursue a new career path or expand inside your leadership in a new way - yet not feeling confident that you embody the skills for that path - is to volunteer in a project that piques your curiosity and feels fun. I recommend this because your greatest credential for any career path is your natural born genius ~ the gifts you carry innately and no one had to teach you. These gifts come out (and you can see them) when you have a chance to play without the pressures you might face inside a job. In volunteering, you are free to just be you and see where that takes you. A unique volunteer opportunity coming up is to share your gifts to support the 2024 Democratic National Convention that is happening in Chicago this summer. If this feels fun to you, you can consider it a chance to play, let your gifts shine through, and let the magic happen from there. One of my close contacts is leading the organization of volunteers for the convention and activities beforehand. If you’re interested, start by filling out this interest form and for the neighborhood ambassador add: Ross Mantell. If you’d like I can make a personal introduction too.

Lately, I've heard too many stories of volunteers facing unfair treatment—delayed or no responses, poor training, and feeling undervalued. Many volunteers invest time and money to help, yet their contributions seem overlooked. While sports events can be busy, clear communication with volunteers should be a priority. ➡ If a volunteer isn't chosen, inform them promptly! ➡ If they're selected, inform them promptly! ➡ If there are internal challenges causing delays, guess what? Inform them promptly! Volunteers are the backbone of successful events. Let's ensure we not only value them during the event but also provide the support and respect they deserve in the lead-up!

Two years ago today, we shared a post about the difference between creating a volunteer community that is open vs. welcoming, a process that is easy vs. accessible. Given how often I am asked about how to say no to volunteers or decline a volunteer application, I thought it might be useful to repost this one as it is all related! Open to your thoughts as well. "Is your engagement open or welcoming? Is it easy or accessible? There's a difference. Read our latest blog and share your thoughts on the matter." https://lnkd.in/gAjG4zWn

I would love to know if there is a Jane's Walk being organized in London or K-W or Brantford? I would love to connect and support that initiative. Question: does the applicant have to be living in Toronto to volunteer in this position as Treasurer?
