Dear Friends, Allies and My Fellow Regina Residents, After much thinking and many conversations with family and friends, and a deep reflection on the concerns and the needs of our city residents, I have decided to run for the Regina Ward 7 Councilor seat in the upcoming municipal election. My firm commitment and belief in the power of community service, along with the need for compassionate leadership that truly listens to the voices of all our city residents, helped guide my decision. I also recognize the magnitude of the task ahead and the enormous sacrifice such an undertaking requires. Additionally, I made this decision with humility, understanding that all those who run for public office do so for the betterment of our communities. Why Now? Our city has seen a significant growth in population over the past decade or so. This growth has brought its own unique challenges that require bold leadership and solutions, innovative ideas, and strong dedication to fairness and equity. With my own lived experience and an academic background in social work and public administration, I believe I can provide such bold leadership and bring to the table a unique perspective that can help the council to deal with our city’s ever-expanding challenges. From addressing the critical need for affordable housing, to promoting sustainable development and ensuring our neighborhoods are safe and flourishing, as well as establishing the necessary support programs for our vulnerable residents; there is a lot on the council's agenda, and I am ready to hit the ground running on day one to help deliver on these priorities. I envision our city to be a place: Ø where we support local entrepreneurs, attract new businesses and investments, and enable our communities to prosper and grow. Ø Where law enforcement agencies and communities work together to make our neighborhoods safe and secure for all. Ø Where we encourage sustainable development while we safeguard and protect our environment for future generations. Ø Where we practice inclusive leadership that listens to all voices and caters to the needs of all our city residents. The Journey Ahead: Finally, I kindly ask you to join me in this journey, share your ideas/concerns, volunteer for door-knocking, spread the word to your friends and families, donate to the campaign, and support us in any other way possible. Your involvement is essential to the success of this journey. Together let us build an all-inclusive city where no one is left behind. Together we all win. With Hope and Commitment, Abdi Gure
