When I first got admitted at Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) the Village Field Segment (VFS) wasn't what I had in mind. Honestly, immersing myself in village life wasn't exactly my cup of tea. I had heard stories, both good and bad, about this experience even before I got there. I even thought about staying in a nearby hotel instead of fully embracing the village atmosphere. But oh, how perspective can change! From a hesitant newbie to someone who now treasures VFS as the best part of the IRMA journey till now(hope many more will be there), the change has been incredible. I owe it all to the priceless lessons and experiences that VFS gave me. First off all, there's the practical learning that textbooks can't match. The hands-on experience during those 45 days is just unbeatable. Then there's the local culture, the lively festivals, and the warm friendships (apnapan) that became part of daily life. But maybe the biggest lesson was finding joy in simplicity. Talking with the villagers, I learned to appreciate what I have. In no time, the villagers welcomed us like family. Building those connections was effortless, and I just hope they are treasured lifetime. We(me and my co-partners) didn't just learn from them; we luckily got to give back too sharing ideas and making a difference, no matter how small, was incredibly fulfilling. It's a two-way street where we all learn and grew together. I've been getting a lot of questions about VFS, and here's my message: Embrace it! It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance that will leave a mark on your journey. Trust me, any doubts will fade, replaced by deep fulfillment and gratitude. So, if you're unsure about VFS, leap! You won't regret it. It's not just about academics; it's a journey that will change you in ways you never imagined. P.S.: My village family recently visited me and shared a box full of hand-made biscuits which they served me there. You'll have an enriching experience.

“The Power of Whānau: Recharging for the Journey Ahead” I have just returned from 11 days overseas with my whānau (family) , a journey that has been as refreshing as it has been meaningful. This trip wasn’t just about getting away—it was about intentionally creating space to reconnect, laugh, and recharge our spirits together. It took six years of planning and saving, but every moment was worth it. The last time I spent this kind of time with my two boys was in Fiji, then they were just 7 and 8 years old. Now, they’re 21 and 22, and our whānau has grown to include my new partner, my stepson, and my eldest son’s girlfriend. To experience this time together as a larger whānau has been a gift beyond measure — one that I will cherish forever. In the face of the headwinds we often encounter while serving our people of Aotearoa, it’s easy to lose sight of the importance of our health and well-being. Yet, it’s during these challenging times that whānau time becomes even more critical. It’s the foundation that fuels our resilience and re-energises us for the mahi (work) ahead.
