For many of us, navigating difficult conversations has become a common feature of holiday gatherings. In today's Beyond the Margins, Andrew DeVigal shares insights and practical resources for rebuilding civic dialogue and connecting across differences, starting at this year's dinner table: "These small conversations can’t solve every problem in one evening, but they can remind us of our shared stake in the future of our democracy. When these connections ripple outward—when what begins at the kitchen table informs what happens in our schools, workplaces, and communities—they can become the building blocks of something much more significant." #CivicDialogue #Holidays https://lnkd.in/g_k55kzv

Today is the second meeting of the place based physical activity leadership network the first following the launch of An Active Wellbeing Service https://lnkd.in/eaFgEHxM. Perhaps those attending should start with a reflection on the new ministers, Lisa Nandy’s first speech. Don’t get hung up on the fact it is about heritage and museums but focus on the values and purpose of the new government. Today’s meeting will start flashing out how our vision of communities working with the sector to address health inequalities everywhere can be delivered. She is clear the government will challenge us to embrace change but invites us to challenge them. Let’s do that not with shouts for more money but with the evidence of what is already working and targeted requests to change the policies and behaviours that are getting in the way. Let’s show we don’t need a government to make us collaborate rather than compete. Good luck today to all those attending. Julie Russell, John Oxley, Ian Fytche.

Unlocking the Power of the Silent Majority in Communities In every community, there is a vocal minority that often leads the conversation, shapes perceptions, and drives initiatives. However, there's an equally important yet often overlooked group – the silent majority. These individuals may not actively participate in discussions or be at the forefront of activities, but their presence and potential contributions are invaluable. At Step Ahead, we believe in the power of every voice, especially those that are seldom heard. Our Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) platform is designed to uncover and engage this silent majority, ensuring that every community member's potential is recognized and harnessed. Why the Silent Majority Matters: Hidden Insights: Silent members can offer fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that haven't been explored yet. Balanced Representation: Engaging the silent majority ensures a more inclusive and representative community. Strengthened Bonds: Encouraging participation from all members fosters a stronger, more cohesive community. Our recent projects have demonstrated that by tapping into the silent majority, organizations can unlock new pathways for collaboration, innovation, and growth. Join us in creating communities where every voice matters. Let’s bridge the gap and unlock the full potential of your community together. #CommunityBuilding #Innovation #ONA #Collaboration #StepAhead #HiddenPotential #InclusiveCommunities
