Well what I feel from my experience on this topic is that : The younger you are you have a sense of optimism coupled with childlike enthusiasm fuelling it. At an older stage you are more pragmatic. That affects will and decision making. Maturity of decision making, comes at its cost. Plus energy ( with which a child can keep an adult up all night, driven by inquisition and curiosity and joy of learning and solving) An adult even on the lightest day would desire some rest and sleep. [ no self reflection, brainstorming, branches of the decision making tree feels to halt its photosynthesis at night ] And finally ! If you have dependents or personal responsibilities, your focus has a slight chance of getting divided or digressed if not both ! Also, our brain's reward system - in the initial days of work is more active. With age, maturity and repeat occurrence of success, it feels like it is not as "rewarding" as it used to be. The solution to this is probably finding new problems to solve. Hence contributing more and breaking the innate reflexes we are shackled by and tricking our brain into going to a "Child Mode".
