What I like best about working with our APAC team actually has little to do with projects in the APAC markets (those are cool, though), but it's really because cross-cultural engagement (with people on the ground living and embodying everyday culture) is one of the best ways to check your assumptions and biases, to get inspired, and to think outside of default habits, norms, and ossified cultural tropes around you. The trick is to think in terms of culture, not merely in terms of markets. You don't need to sell products in China to learn a ton from how Chinese tech is developing, we just did a project on how cultural conceptions of health are changing in Korea and Thailand, for example. We certainly learned what we needed to inform a global strategy that needed to be relevant and coherent in those spaces - but along the way we find provocative, inspiring, and challenging insights that can stretch our thinking and poke at our assumptions regardless of "target market". Now, there's a bad theory of culture that treats cultural behaviors and traits like a Mr. Potato-head, deconstructing and reconstructing, fusing and appropriating with no regard for context. Culture as catalogue of examples. But there's a more productive way to think about cultural insights critically and generatively (the great David Graeber's Fragments of an Anarchist Manifesto was my first intro to the latter model). Anyway - I digress, point is- thinking through markets is good. Thinking also through culture yields much more.
In summer last year Space Doctors APAC took a look at how (and more importantly why) China is ahead of the West in truly understanding the integration of 'real' and 'digital' reality. Or put another way, why 'the metaverse is not a destination'. To learn more about how for over 20 years we've been working with clients like Marina Bay Sands, The Coca-Cola Company Japan and Midea Group to optimise communications, set and execute the right strategy for the region, and shape the future in APAC reach out to Sui Lai K., Gareth Lewis or Juanhui Wu. With a regional HQ in Singapore, partner offices in Shanghai, Tokyo, Jakarta, Bangkok, Hong Kong SAR, Sydney, Manila and Taipei, and an APAC-wide network of semioticians, cultural analysts, designers, strategists and change-makers, we have the experience, expertise and reach required to help you connect meaningfully to culture and consumers in Asia. #apac #china #metaverse #ai #culture #spacedoctors Read our piece on 'Integrating Physical and Digital Worlds in China' in Business Reporter here: https://lnkd.in/ergYceAw

How can #Hamburg help #Singapore companies and Startups to enter Germany? We are delighted to have TeleMedC established in Hamburg, thanks to strong support from Start2 Group and the-labs.space as well as funding from Hamburgische Investitions- und Förderbank (IFB Hamburg). Cracking the German market is indeed a big challenge. To further support Singapore startups and companies in Hamburg, we are seeking the engagement from #corporates through pilot projects and funding. These elements are crucial for helping them navigate and succeed in the German market.
More Singapore firms want to expand into Europe Glad to have been able to share my views on opportunities for Singapore companies in Europe, especially in Germany. Singapore has been a hub for trade and business for many, many years, and I always loved this place for the speed of development and innovation, but also for being a melting pot of culture. They say that business makes the world go around, but nowadays we don't have to sail around the world to do business. Digitalisation simply made the distance shorter. But sometimes we still want to meet right? Even I, who probably sum up north of a thousand digital business meetings a year, and this weeks in-person meetings were all worth the jetlag. Meeting Edmund Yap Managing Director at the innovative Swedish biotech company group BICO in a deep conversation about channel management. An experienced leader who knows all about direct and indirect sales in Asia - and how it differs between countries and cultures. Meeting Long Chye Low Managing Director at CREATIVE in multi-hour-session breaking down the value chain in B2B sales and retail, finding potential for further mutual success. Combined with an amazing lunch that made my day. And a truly great time with Jason Lim Managing Director at Starvision with the best ever combo; A walk through memory lane in the historical areas of Singapore, Business development with exciting channel use-cases for SPCE, topped up with an advanced AI conversation. Great learnings also here from the team. As my old friend Christer Olsson use to say; "We live as long as we learn..." and I believe we all want to live long... so we better take all chances we can to learn. Thanks for all knowledge sharing and energy forward! Now it's time for take the SPCEship to Medical Fair, where 1 000+ Medtech companies meet to share their innovations to the world. 😀

🌏 China in 2025: A Milestone for Innovation & Global Collaboration When I first heard about "Made in China 2025," it was even before I set foot in China back in 2018. It sounded ambitious and futuristic, much like everything I’ve come to learn about this incredible country. Of course, my early impressions also included some funny clichés: wondering how to use chopsticks properly 🥣 , or how everyone seemed to think people here all looked alike (they don’t! 😁 ). Fast forward to today, 2025 is finally here, and "Made in China 2025" has become a reality, positioning China as a leader in high-tech industries like AI, robotics, electric vehicles (EVs), and biotechnology. 🇨🇳 Why 2025 Matters? This isn’t just a slogan; it’s a bold roadmap for innovation, self-reliance, and global leadership. Over the years, I’ve seen firsthand how China has turned this vision into action through cutting-edge research, smart cities, and global tech collaborations. 🚗 EV Revolution: From leading EV production to sustainable urban development, China is setting global standards. 🤖 AI Advancements: Transforming industries with smart automation and personalized solutions. 🌍 A Global Tech Partner What excites me most is how China’s progress isn’t just about competition—it’s about collaboration. As someone working on overseas tech partnerships, I’ve seen the value of bridging borders to create shared innovation. 🔮 Looking Ahead 2025 marks a year of growth, sustainability, and global cooperation. From ambitious beginnings to tangible achievements, China continues to lead the way in shaping the future of technology. Here’s to an exciting journey ahead! #MadeInChina2025 #Innovation #Tech #GlobalCooperation #ElectricVehicles #AI #FutureOfTech #China #Sustainability #BusinessDevelopment

Where do you go to expand your creative thinking as a leader? Like most of you I keep my eye on my own industry, the pharmaceutical world and trends that are driving medical affairs. However, looking beyond our own backyards can provide insights from what other businesses or industry are doing which drives their success. With this in mind I recently had the opportunity to visit Japan with my son Alex in June, who wanted to visit the "Cup Noodles Museum" in Yokohama. The museum is designed to stimulate #creativethinking and #curiosity, which reflects the ideas of founder Momofuku Ando ways of how the instant noodle company got started and how they keep reinventing the way they do business. Here are six key ideas or concepts that drive their curiosity of creative thinking, along with my reflection of what I learned. 1. Look for or discover something completely new! Reflection - Push the boundaries of what you do everyday! If your not pushing the boundaries and making your self uncomfortable are you moving forward. 2. Find hints in all sorts of places Reflection - There are inspirations that spark new ideas all around you just waiting to be found. Look up explore the wonder. 3. Nurturing ideas Reflection: Creating an collaborative environment where there is psychological safety to encourage people to speak up, will allow ideas to evolve. Helen Keller said “Alone we can do little; together we can do much.” 4. Look at things from every angle Reflection: By looking at every angle it will broaden our understanding, reduce our personal bias, help spark innovation and lead to better decision making 5. Don’t just go with the status quo Reflection: We need to have the courage to step out embrace change and challenge the way we do things to find new opportunities and ways to improve. 6. Never give up Reflection: Thomas Edison said it best "I have not failed. I've found 10,000 way that won't work." Learn from your mistakes success is just around the corner. Who knew what you could learn by going to the Noodle Cup Museum. #tevanexter #tevapharmaceuticals
