Just spent part of the evening with Satyajit Das. Well not me, on my own. I went to a talk he gave at the #statelibraryofnsw about the launch of his new book Wild Quests: Journeys into Ecotourism and the Future for Animals As a keen scuba diver and lover of the sea/ocean I was keen to hear about is take on ecotourism. It's complicated. And while there I purchased his updated book A Banquet of Consequences. Reloaded, 'the only book you need to understand how we got into our current economic, environmental and social mess – and how we might find our way out.' Of course 'Das' signed my copy. No I didn't get a photo of us together. The signed copy was sufficient for me. There's so many opportunities to meet with the authors of books and it's such a great way to connect with them, ask questions (mine was about #PaulWatson's imprisonment in Greenland pending extradition to Japan). I'd also recommend you check out the State Library of NSW...there's so many interesting events on and, of course there is the fabulous 'Library Bar'. I mean what could be a better combination? Authors beware. Publishing scams, especially in the world of self publishing and ChatGPT generated books are all the rage. Which is a real shame for those of us who love books, writing and publishing. Thanks Anna Featherstone for calling Shawline Publishing/now New Found Books out. DO NOT work with this business...they are not reputable. And, I am sorry for all those authors and suppliers who have been ripped off. If any of you need any help please don't hesitate to PM me.

Interest rates higher for longer. Wages and costs continuing to increase. Cashflow getting tighter. These are just some of the pressures on small businesses right now, so doing what you've always done to deal with these and other challenges isn't going to see you through the next 12-18 months. It's tough out there, and you are not alone. You might be a small business owner trying to save money by doing more yourself, just working harder. But have you stepped back to assess just where you are at in your business and personally, so you can work out what needs to change? Do you have a strategy and plan for your business for the next 12 months?   When I started my first business I didn’t have a business plan, my budget and cashflow management was pretty pathetic and I didn’t know my cost of sale or profit margin. GULP. When I struggled through the GFC I had the systems and information, but HOPE became my action plan. I learnt a lot of lessons from this.
