Blue Skies and rooftop terrace lunches! Ripped it across the Brooklyn Bridge from the Manhattan office to catch up with this designer at this iconic spot...IYKYK! He's not in town often so it was great to find time to grab a quick bite and just chat design and what it is to work. Everyone has different work needs, differing work ethics and a different relationship with work. As a recruiter I do my absolute best to remove all my bias and views about work from my interactions with Designers - their work decisions are theirs and theirs alone, not mine. It was great to just chat openly and transparently about own views around work in the current climate, knowing weren't not pushing a bias but just sharing. Good Hangs, Good Chats, Great burger and one of the best spots in Brooklyn!

The same way packaging works with products you buy in a store. The same way the lighting in a restaurant creates ambiance. The same way a book cover gives you a peek into what's inside. As a human, you take in all sorts of data points to fill in all the gaps in your imagination to create a story about what a thing is and how it works. Including each other. The answer isn't "use plants, bookcases, and blank walls" because you should convey competence. The answer is "understand that people will create a tale of potential about you based on what they see on the screen." Now you get to choose if you want or don't want to do anything about it. #taleofpotential #futureyou

In these days of virtual meetings, your background matters.. Avoid novelty backgrounds. Plants, bookcases and blank backgrounds are best as they are deemed to project competence. Happy, smiling features were judged to be more trustworthy than neutral features. Very interesting study results. Would be interesting to see if similar trends were replicated for video consultations.

Create Positive Change. Working from a cozy neighborhood coffee shop is truly inspiring. The eclectic mix of mismatched chairs, quaintly uneven tables, and the comforting sight of steam from behind the counter create a cozy ambiance. As various languages and stories fill the air, it feels like being welcomed by an old friend, to come inside for a chat and a chance to reconnect. I make it a point to work from a coffee shop a couple of times a month. It's not just about stepping out of the office; it's about connecting with colleagues in a different setting, reigniting creativity in a fresh environment, and reestablishing a connection with the world around me. Next time you need a change of scenery or a burst of inspiration, consider working from your local coffee shop. Share your favorite coffee shop work experiences or photos in the comments, and let's inspire each other to embrace new environments for productivity and connection. #creative #teamculture #storytelling #connectingtogether #connectivity Photo: Dragonfly Coffee Shop, Portland OR, google images.

What does your workspace look like? Boardrooms and corporate offices still sometimes feel quite serious and uptight – and greys, whites and blacks are what we commonly see in these spaces. 🎨 But I think it’s time we bring more colour and life into our work. When I was designing my workspace at home, I put a lot of love and care into it. It’s vibrant, colourful, inspirational and bursting with creative energy – Because that’s how I want to feel when I am within that space. 🌀 Science supports this. 80% of our sensory impressions are based on our visual system 👁️, And because of this the colours we see can have a profound effect on how we feel, think and act. According to Psychology Today, 🩶 Grey can be more depressing than black – is it any wonder so many people feel demotivated at work? 🧡 Warm colours like yellow or pink can energise us, but too much of them can irritate us 🩵 Cool shades like blues or purples can help us feel calm Colours can even affect our productivity. A study showed that those who were given a red coloured participant number scored less on a test than those who were given blue or green numbers. Let’s challenge the norm, and start designing spaces for ourselves that nurture and nourish our well-being and innate creativity. 🫶 Look around you – is your desk and home a healthy mix of colours and creative inspiration? What kinds of spaces do you find most inspiration in? #ColourPsychology #Productivity #Inspiration

Considering we are now in the age of remote and cities have been on life support for a long time, Now feels the time to reinvent them for the better. Very interesting perspective and shines a light on why don’t we have more drop in and out places to work across cities that can help address some of the drawbacks with remote work and being people together. Of course you have the shared offices spaces that you can pre book but there should be much more open working spaces that aim to bring people together and reimagine cities
The second space is declining in civic importance — we used to spend most of our time in offices, and it gave us our identity. How we dress, what we ate + who we saw was defined by where we worked. A couple weeks ago I ran into a guy in New York City holding his laptop and a charger looking distressed. “This place doesn’t have internet, I can’t get on my call, do you know where I should go?” I didn’t have a great recommendation for him – “maybe try a hotel a lobby?” We’re so focused on getting people to return to the second space, that we’re missing an opportunity to redesign our cities to meet an entirely new need: a new category of third spaces where work, people, ideas, art + culture collide. In a world where work can happen anywhere, why do we have so few places to go?
