Co-design in social care is more than just a co-production process; it's an opportunity to create solutions that meet everyone's needs. In fact, collective desire for a better solution can lead to more innovative and effective outcomes, according to Erin Manning's book The Minor Gesture. Adrienne maree brown emphasises the importance of pleasure in activism, and co-design can be seen as a form of activism towards creating more inclusive and equitable solutions. By bringing diverse perspectives and experiences together, co-design taps into natural abundance, creating solutions that not only meet practical needs but also bring joy and celebration to the process. Kenneth and Mary Gergen propose a collaborative epistemology, where research is viewed as a means of world-making rather than just mapping. In co-design, the aim is not just to create a solution but to co-create a new reality that is more just and equitable. Love can play a vital role in this shift by fostering a sense of trust, empathy, and collaboration among all participants.
