A very interesting conversation between Alicia Meneses Maples, Glass Child TEDx Speaker and Emily Holl of the Sibling Support Project about how to reconcile guilt and deal with resentment, two hallmarks of the untreated glass child experience. These are two fundamental aspects of the #sibling experience that can be addressed by everyone in appropriate ways for each stage of life. This is also why Progetto GENERA –Focus Siblings - From Invisible to Protagonist, exists. Recognizing the #skills developed through the sibling role and transferring them to other areas of life: • Recognizing the existence of siblings • Activating the transfer of skills from private life to professional life • Increasing sibling #selfefficacy • Reducing the work dispersion of mothers/women - still the main #caregivers - and job downgrading • Overcoming #stereotypes related to #disability and families of disabled people. • Promoting greater #inclusivity (through a positive view of the disability domain). • Support for new parents and siblings of disabled children.

Bullying is a real problem in our society. It's something I've dealt with. It's something my son has dealt with. And I'm sure there are many folks on here who have also dealt with it. Social media has not helped this in any way...and in fact has exacerbated the problem leading to a much higher rate of suicide in teens and young adults. Children as young as ten are taking their lives. I was at the gym the other day talking to a guy about my age. He was jovial and sweet and seemed upbeat without a care in the world. Later I found out his 13-year old daughter had taken her life the week before. We don't know what anyone is going through, adult or child. I wrote this substack about my own personal experiences as well as those we recently went through with my son. In the current state of technology and social instability, it becomes increasingly necessary to find ways to lower anxiety and deal with depression. So much of our lives are tied to our productivity or "success" and with viral videos, likes, and deep fakes it is becoming more difficult to find true happiness in the hype blur. Sadly we are swimming even deeper into these cesspools, being led by the likes of Billy Carson, Terrence Howard, Sam Altman, Joe Rogan, and of course Elon Musk. It's time to reassess our "gods" and figure out who will stop the monsters from killing the children. There is a wonderful book by Riane Eisler titled "The Chalice and the Blade." I think it's time we start re-examining our past to better understand how we can move away from destructive systems bent on consumption and "survival of the fittest," and more interested in creative systems less driven by extremes. With the viral nature of social media and the current state of interconnection we are hurtling towards a very scary place where our kids won't be able to know what is truth and how to be skeptical of the BS being spewed by snake oil peddlers. New Substack drops tomorrow, 10AM. #depression #suicide #bullying #technology #socialmedia #viralvideos #anxiety

Each day this week we are going to take a look at some tips for talking to children about death and dying: Don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know Children can ask some really difficult questions, such as: “What happens after death?” “Does heaven really exist?” and “Why do people have to die?” As much as you’d like to give them definite answers, the truth is that the human race has been striving to answer these questions for thousands of years and we still don’t know exactly. Admitting that you don’t know isn’t a bad thing. Simply explain that everyone has different ideas and that there are some questions in life to which we don’t have definite answers. #NorwichFuneralDirectors #FuneralDirectors #PlanningAFuneral

Clinical Psychologist | Supporting children access trauma informed help | Up-skilling front line practitioners working in education, health & social care to deliver the Healing Together programmes.
Adults struggle to sit with children that are expressing feelings of sadness. So they go into superhero mode by offering a load of solutions to fix their problem or Distract the children from their feelings by doing a activity or getting them to focus on all the ‘positive’ stuff in their lives. This is extremely invalidating for a child to experience. You can rationalise the problem (usually to make yourself feel better) but their body will still feel sadness. #traumainformed #childrensmentalhealth #childrenincare #earlyintervention #staffdevelopment https://lnkd.in/eTNu7rRV
