The definition of winning, we can all strive towards… When those you surround yourself with accept you fully for who you are… When you treat everyone you meet with compassion and avoid projecting onto them… When you feel connected to your family, friends, community, strangers and nature… When you feel empowered to do things to help others… When you feel in control of your reaction no matter the inner emotion… When you feel comfortable enough in your own skin to walk your own path… When you see the best in people, even when they can’t… When the lies told by others no longer hurt you… When you can forgive others and yourself… When you trust that your friends speak just as kindly behind your back as they do to your face… When you realise that we’re all different, and that that is wonderful… When you know that these things are much more important than any argument, prize, power or control… When you realise that material things have little or no inherent value…. Then you are on the road to true happiness, and have worked out the way to win at life!… How nice could it be once everyone works this out?!

The unhappiest folks are those who care the most about what everyone thinks. The draw of comfort is the biggest dream killer. In the end, you can be comfortable or courageous, but not both at once. If achievement had no price, it would be of no value. We all make choices, but in the end our choices make Us. Your dreams come true only when YOU make them come true. Winners win not because they're allowed to, but because they decide you. You are exactly where you're supposed to be at this very moment. Every experience and step is necessary. Being ambitious and driven is what we want. You can be as ambitious with your goals as you want. You can be as driven with your goals as you want. But it’s pointless without consistency. They are that stubborn they can just absorb the graft without needing the instant return. They show up no matter how they feel. How much do you want to be The Best At What You Do? It's a tremendous aspiration, because if you're recognized as such, then you own a unique place in the universe. Well... until someone else climbs past you on that ladder. Somehow, "former best", "former first", "former GOAT" doesn't have the same shine. That's why I'm not actually worried about becoming or being The Best At What I Do. I find that I'm quite happy to perform at the highest level that I myself can reach. That means I'm performing to an expectation that's consistent with my God-given skills and aptitudes. But if I reach a point of recognition in some field, I'm more than content to be considered One Of the best. Whether that's based on general consensus or one friend's opinion, that's enough. The underlying thought with respect to the consensus version of One Of is that it leaves plenty of room for others to share that label. It means a whole bunch of us can be on the mountaintop as peers - and possibly as collaborators and teammates. It means that one more person there won't bump any of us back down the hillside. And the cool part is that if we understand that our place on the mountaintop is secure, it frees us to reach downhill and help others up to where the we are, making the overall state of our art/profession/field of knowledge higher. All we have to do is love the idea of One Of.

What do you got to lose…. Well, in reality, maybe a lot. Maybe you have worked really hard to stack your successes over time and have gone through hell and back to get there. Once you make it to the major leagues I don’t think you would ever want to go back down to the minors once you get a taste of being at the top. The thing is, that fear of losing can work against you to play defensive, on the field and in life. It’s normal to want to try and hang on to what you have worked hard for. To use that fear for the right fuel, allow it make you take action on the things in your process that brought you to those successes in the first place. If I don’t do _____ then I decrease my chances of success. Use the fear of not wanting to go back to drive your work ethic. Then shift your focus to the next reward you are trying to shoot for. Create a healthy balance of not wanting to go back, work hard, and what is the next thing pulling me towards your next level of greatness. You now have a great process to find fulfillment in the pursuit.
