In Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, designers strived to create a low impact urban dwelling, that feels like an escape to paradise. While the facade is in large part floor to ceiling expansive glass windows, solar overhangs act to reduce solar gain to the interior spaces. This allows for maximum views of the natural environment surrounding the structure and for natural indirect sunlight to illuminate the interior spaces. Beautiful towering trees help to naturally shade the site and a water feature helps lower the ground temperature in the area. The building itself utilizes locally sourced natural materials in its construction, the use of local labor as well helps to reduce the buildings overall carbon footprint. This building, shows the capabilities of different building materials and construction techniques ability to also be environmentally conscious. By using natural means of heating and cooling, we can lower the need for energy use and energy waste. Incorporating **biophilic design** into urban landscapes is more than just an aesthetic choice—it’s a way to reconnect city dwellers with nature, enhancing well-being and productivity. This picture from Porto in Portugal is a great example of how cities can integrate natural elements, even in highly built-up areas. Notice how the **greenery** around historical monuments and public spaces contrasts with the urban structures, providing both a visual and emotional reprieve. The trees and open spaces soften the cityscape, making it more inviting and healthier for residents and tourists alike. **Biophilic design** promotes: - **Mental well-being:** Exposure to nature reduces stress and increases focus. - **Social interaction:** Green spaces encourage people to gather and engage. - **Sustainability:** Natural environments promote eco-consciousness and improve air quality. As urban populations grow, it's vital that we embrace nature-inspired designs in our cities to foster a healthier, more connected community. #UrbanDesign #Sustainability #BiophilicDesign #Porto

What if a metropolitan park could be designed as a vibrant carpet of activities? Earlier this year, we had the privilege of designing a metropolitan-scale park in Astana, Kazakhstan—a space that goes beyond the traditional idea of a city park. Inspired by the rich heritage of Kazakhstan’s nomadic tribes, we envisioned this park as a massive, colorful carpet where every “pixel” serves as a unique activity or infrastructure. This innovative design transforms the park into a dynamic space, catering to people of all ages and becoming a true metropolitan attraction. The project blends cultural symbolism with contemporary urban design, pushing the boundaries of what public spaces can be. With every step of the design process, our goal was to create a vibrant environment that fosters interaction, engagement, and connection within the city. Take a look at the reel showcasing the entire journey—from the first concept to the final design. We are excited to share this glimpse of our work with you. #PublicSpaces #EntertainmentHub #UrbanIntervention #MetropolitanPark #KazakhstanDesign #UrbanActivation #100architects
