Be A Love Warrior! Marginalized communities are more likely to experience poverty, lack of affordable housing, and discrimination in the housing market, pushing them into homelessness at higher rates. Addressing the root causes of racial disparities in homelessness requires that we embrace solutions that center Radical Love. The Supreme Court decision will lead to further stigmatization and violence on our unhoused neighbors. Embracing and protecting Radical Love is imperative. Be A Love Warrior! https://lnkd.in/gqCH4Kh4

🌟 At United Stride, we're committed to creating a brighter, more inclusive future for all Americans. 🌟 Recent news out of Arizona highlights the challenges we face in addressing homelessness and poverty. The GOP's ban on guaranteed basic income programs is a step in the wrong direction. Instead of addressing the root causes of these issues, such as lack of access to affordable housing and economic opportunity, it further marginalizes vulnerable communities. But there's hope. United Stride believes in solutions that uplift everyone, regardless of their circumstances. We advocate for policies that promote economic justice, provide a safety net for those in need, and create pathways to prosperity for all. Together, we can work towards a future where no one is left behind. Join us in advocating for change and building a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. 💪 #UnitedStride #EconomicJustice #EndHomelessness #FightPoverty

Finally, Marcella Stakem, SVP Research and Policy Officer gives an overview of the experiences of SVP supporting people living in homelessness. She also outlines why more resources are needed to address long waiting lists for children with additional needs. A survey of 405 members in May found that over half had received a request for help with the cost of private assessments. #inclusivebudget #endpoverty #budget2025

Homelessness is indeed a policy issue in Canada, and it is not simply a result of personal choice. There are many systemic and societal factors that contribute to homelessness, such as lack of affordable housing, economic inequality, and inadequate support for mental health and addiction issues. It is important for the government and communities to address these issues through policy changes, increased funding for support services, and creating more opportunities for affordable housing. It is a collective responsibility to ensure that everyone has a safe and secure place to call home.🏡
Director of Alameda County Health, Housing and Homelessness Services | Executive Leader | Housing, Homelessness, and Behavioral Health Policy, Programs, and Advocacy | Systems Strategist
Homelessness is a policy choice, not a personal choice. The more we focus in on individual behavioral issues — themselves often cascading consequences of larger structural injustices that stress, traumatize, and burden Black, brown, indigenous, poor, and disempowered communities — the more we avail ourselves of resources that help us avert our eyes from the truth, content to let the effects of our systems stand in as causes, pathologizing whole communities in the process. That pathology — our continual drive to blame the poor for their poverty, and the housing deprived for their deprivation — and the policies it undergirds and drives, is what we need to root out and name. #endhomelessness #housingforall #housingjustice
