A role where I operate in my high level of CEO power, efforlessley. 🧿 This morning I sat down with the Assistant head to go through DE&I. We worked through: 1. The data - where we are in 2024 with, ethnicity, disability, gender, religion… 2. Spoke about what ALL staff are doing in terms of t&d and how we can encourage motivate and MAKE TIME for them to complete it in the working day. 3. How we can use the role models who have any needs (staff) within the school to build workshops and masterclasses for the children. 4. How the school has and will continue to embody DE&I through resources. And 5. Is where I need YOUR help 🙏🏾 How we can have continuous visitors virtually, or otherwise to come in to speak about their experiences, and how they overcame it. Advancing safety, comfort, and joy for youth and families through thoughtful partnerships & planning.
Simple events can spark change - especially with Ruby's message.
Applications are now open for the 2024 Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day mini-grants! This event honors the legacy of civil rights activist Ruby Bridges, who, at just six years old, made history in 1960 by integrating the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans. Ruby's courageous actions have since become a symbol of the fight for #equality. Every November 14th, we celebrate her bravery by encouraging students to walk to school and engage in meaningful discussions about #activism, #antiracism, and #antibullying. Our goal is to inspire students to create positive change in their schools and communities. We are thrilled to offer #grants of $500 and $1000 to help support your Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day celebrations this fall. The application deadline is Friday, September 13, 2024, and grants will be awarded by Friday, October 4, 2024. Learn more: https://bit.ly/2024rbwtsd

It is important to build a valuable network long before you need it to speak for you. Use the opportunities you have in your religious circle, professional associations, school alumni platforms to sell your ideas and services. You can also volunteer your services as a way of telling people you are available for work. Follow us @ http://careerwise.ng #networking #volunteering #opportunities #relationships Olusola John, PhD

Here's some thoughtful insights from kinship carer and longstanding campaigner for racial equity in kinship care, Sharon McPherson, who is co-founder of Families in Harmony. In this Sounddelivery Media article, she talks about #kinshipcare in Jamaica, the legacy of #Windrush and #barrelchildren and what lessons can be learned and shared. Lots to reflect on from her Churchill Fellowship programme about how to better understand the experiences of Black kinship carers, in particular those raising children in informal arrangements, through fostering respect and understanding of cultural identities. Charter schools and private schools aren't required to admit every child. They aren't required to have a SpEd program or make accommodations. Public schools are required to accept every child and meet their needs...defunding public schools threatens the most vulnerable kids. https://lnkd.in/ggsKeGue Found via nottheonlyone.org as one of 9,100+ #DEI #Diversity, #Equity and #Inclusion items.

Know a teacher? Teaching assistant? Head? Speech therapist? Lecturer? Social worker? Even a parent or two? Oracy is not just limited to school. At 'The Oracy Shift', we want to help ALL people who come into contact with children to understand oracy better and equip them with the tools and strategies for it! Please share our page and let's SHIFT (pun intended) the spotlight onto oracy!
📣 Championing Oracy! 📣 Always great to see Dr Kate Paradine shining the spotlight upon the importance of oracy within education and beyond. I also love the point that state schools, such as School 21 (part of the founding of Voice 21 UK) may have a thing or two to teach private schools such as Eton. Oracy is for all not a privileged few and 'The Oracy Shift' is determined to get as many educators as possible onboard our shared mission! Ha ha Girls again! When will they do a seminar for us?" The displeased boy exclaimed. Celebrating International Boy Child's Day: Equal Opportunities for All Months ago, On almost every Mondays, Our principal would announce on the assembly ground, "Girls, when it's 2:00 pm, please proceed to the hall, as an NGO will be speaking with you." At the scheduled time, all the girls in the school compound would make their way to the hall. Meanwhile, the boys would either play in the classroom or engage in a game of football on the field. On a particular Monday, after the principal finished addressing the students, She concluded with, "Girls, immediately it's 2:00 pm, please head down to the hall for another enlightening session with an NGO." Unexpectedly, a boy's voice echoed through the assembly, "Ah ha, Girls again! When will they do a seminar for us?" He expressed his dissatisfaction... This is a story that highlights the need for balanced attention and support for both genders. On this International Boy Child's Day, Let us come together to promote and advocate for the holistic development of boys. By providing them with the necessary enlightenment, attention, and guidance, we can nurture their talents, ambitions, and dreams. Together, let's build a world where boys and girls stand on equal footing, empowered to make a positive difference in their lives and communities. #InternationalBoyChildsDay #EqualOpportunities #EmpoweringOurChildren #GenderEquality #InclusiveSociety
