It is always great to see sites where there is a strong hand protection policy in place so that regardless of who attends site they are issued with Traffi gloves. The UK Secretary of State for Defence was issued with a pair of Traffi TG6240 gloves for his dockside visit. The unique, Traffi 🚦 traffic light system makes it simple, a green glove means Cut D/A4 or higher. While the Defence Secretary's task is to keep the country safe, our task is to keep hands safe! This is to ensure those critical jobs can be carried out safely day in and day out with workers returning home safely each day. The Traffi system proven to reduce hand injuries by up to 94%. https://lnkd.in/ep8bz3-t https://lnkd.in/g3XuSnHJ With Traffi, while reducing hand injuries you can also reduce Planetary Costs with our certified Carbon Neutral glove range. #sustainable #handprotection #Gloves #PPE #handsafety #carbonneutral #inclusive #colourcoded

As bad as MSC's plan to lay up 17 ships sounds....in terms of keeping the grey hulls moving, I'd keep the two proposed UNREP vessels, but what good to the day-to-day operations of the Fleet are the expeditionary sea bases / fast transports anyway? Personally do not understand why the Navy / MSC continues to churn out and man those platforms instead of oilers/ammo/stores replenishment ships?

I eventually found out an explanation for the Russian tugboat, which is not exactly only a tugboat. Below an explanation, from H I Sutton on X. _______ People often joke that the Russian navy needs to take ‘tugs’ along on long voyages (this one entered Havana, Cuba, today)Actually it is a smart move and the tugs are for more than just towing. They are support ships. Logistics and support are key, plus Russia doesn’t have a strong global network of equipped friendly ports.Among many tasks, they can perform intelligence gathering activities. This is one aspect of the Russian navy I don’t think is as funny as people hope it is. The other is its submarines.

Flower-class corvette The Flower-class corvette was a British class of 294 corvettes used during World War II by the Allied navies particularly as anti-submarine convoy escorts in the Battle of the Atlantic. Royal Navy ships of this class were named after flowers. The Flowers were nicknamed "the pekingese of the ocean". They had a reputation of having poor sea-handling characteristics, most often rolling in heavy seas, with 80-degree rolls, 40 degrees each side of upright, being fairly common; it was said they "would roll on wet grass". Many crewmen suffered severe motion sickness for a few weeks until they acclimatised to shipboard life. Although poor in their sea-handling characteristics, the Flowers were extremely seaworthy; no Allied sailor was ever lost overboard from a Flower during World War II, outside combat. A typical action by a Flower encountering a surfaced U-boat during convoy escort duties was to run directly at the submarine, forcing it to dive and thus limiting its speed and manoeuvrability. The corvette would then keep the submarine down and preoccupied with avoiding depth charge attacks long enough to allow the convoy to pass safely. The 16 kn (30 km/h; 18 mph) top speed of the Flower-class ships made effective pursuit of a surfaced U-boat [about 17 kn (31 km/h; 20 mph)] impossible, though it was adequate to manoeuvre around submerged U-boats or convoys, both of which ran at a typical maximum of 8 kn (15 km/h; 9.2 mph) and sometimes much less in poor weather. The low speed also made it difficult for Flowers to catch up with the convoy after action.

I could not agree more with this assessment! The shortage of qualified Maritme Workforce both ashore in the Shipyards and crew on US flagged Vessels (both merchant and Navy) needs to be focused on and addressed.

🎖 Valor Ignored: Pete Buttigieg’s Shameful Neglect of US Sailors Under Fire ⚠️ The US Merchant Marine has been relentlessly targeted by Houthi forces in the Red Sea. These mariners, operating under the US flag, have bravely navigated treacherous waters to deliver vital supplies amidst escalating hostilities. Houthi militants have launched numerous assaults on US merchant vessels, aiming to disrupt critical maritime routes and intimidate those who dare to ensure the flow of essential goods. ⏳ Historically, Merchant Mariners have never received the same recognition as US Navy sailors. However, previous secretaries have awarded Merchant Marine Expeditionary and other medals to those in combat zones. These recognitions are crucial as they unlock federal burial benefits and are the first step for Merchant Mariners injured or killed in action to obtain VA benefits. Buttigieg’s refusal to issue awards, or even to take five minutes to thank these mariners in a video address, is denying them their hard-earned benefits.
