Today I’ve been walking the SXSW festival and was inspired by a fascinating session I watched on DEI in tech and the commitments we need to make in these challenging times. After a Stevie Wonder inspired introduction (thanks to Paria Rajai’s question about what is on the panellists playlists right now), conversation quickly opened up into what diversity and inclusion should really mean. The panel focused in on the importance of a sense of belonging in the DEI conversation, with one panellist even going so far as to say that the term should be “diversity, inclusion and belonging”, as the subject should intentionally be personal. There were a few key points that I was particularly inspired by and will be taking back with me when thinking about getting the best out of Etc.: 1. DEI objectives should be part of both a businesses and individual’s OKRs. Diversity is a horizontal objective not a vertical one. 2. Have a “biased disruptor” when it comes to the hiring process and interview selection. This person is responsible for testing language and holding up a mirror throughout the hiring process. 3. Data is key. Diversity figures shouldn’t be looked at in our annual reviews alone, it should be a daily thing. The true DEI work will never stop, the panel concluded, so it’s important to take the small wins, but also to continue the work. And what particularly resonated with me was Kesah Berry’s closing thought that we can’t, as businesses be locked into where your bricks and mortar is – you have to go where the diverse talent is”. A brilliant discussion which got me thinking about our mission at BT driven by Fiona Vines and some of the amazing work being done by the likes of Margaret Sheyindemi and other amazing talent. We’re on a journey, and we’re not there yet but I’m proud to be part of a board which takes the time to always bring the conversation to the table.

Today, we celebrate the 2nd anniversary of our Welink network in Asia Pacific. Board members from Dragages Hong Kong Limited Dragages Singapore Pte Ltd Bouygues-Thai Ltd. BYME Engineering (Hong Kong) Ltd. VSL International Ltd. Bouygues Construction Australia A W Edwards will host Humans Matter to explore "The Ability to Act." This important idea means taking initiative and working well with our surroundings and the people around us. Why is it important? Because when we are able to act, we are somehow superwomen. We: · Are better at taking initiative and sustain our efforts, even if we encounter obstacles · Have a stronger self-confidence, fueling our ability to take initiative and keep engaged, motivated · Better regulate our stress and emotions, as we understand ourselves and our triggers better · Are more creative, especially when facing complex situations · Build better relationships, as we are able to listen, understand and support other. Although there is no fundamental gender differences when it comes to being able act, we, women, may be confronted to social, historical or cultural obstacles that may indirectly limit our ability to act. For instance when it comes to social expectations, risk taking, job promotion … Developing the ability to act is crucial because it helps us face challenges, grab opportunities, and create meaningful change. This is why we chose this topic, with the WeLink board, to empower each and every one of you today with this super-skill.

Sunday brunch Happy new week my fellow millionaires, I hope Tagus week is filled with opportunities, new ideas, employment etc.. What’s your strategy for this week, what’s that one thing that make you stand out among others, there are lots of people with same ideas, even better but what’s that unique thing about you. Let me share with you my idea of business strategy A business strategy is a comprehensive plan outlining an organization's goals, objectives, and tactics to achieve sustainable competitive advantage. It defines how a company will allocate resources, prioritize efforts, and differentiate itself from competitors. An effective business strategy considers: 1. Market analysis: Understanding customer needs, industry trends, and competitor activity. 2. Vision and mission: Defining the company's purpose, values, and long-term objectives. 3. SWOT analysis: Identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. 4. Resource allocation: Assigning resources to support strategic initiatives. 5. Competitive advantage: Developing unique value propositions and differentiators. 6. Performance metrics: Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure progress. A well-crafted business strategy enables companies to: 1. Focus efforts on high-impact initiatives 2. Adapt to changing market conditions 3. Make informed decisions 4. Drive innovation and growth 5. Achieve sustainable success In conclusion, a business strategy serves as a roadmap for organizations to navigate complex markets, achieve their objectives, and create lasting value.

It’s the 80th anniversary of D-Day. We know this day of commemoration very well as we’ve spent decades thinking, pondering, and romanticizing over it. Yet, while we look at what it was about, we forgot to look at how it is applied in today’s scenario of events and lessons learned but also the lessons that will have to be re-learned for various reasons. D-Day contributed to creating an era of stability and new strategic reality, and way of thinking as well as creating a culture of abundance and the concept of being too big to fail, but mainly in certain scenarios and power dynamic structures. The numerous small wars since D-Day have been costly in terms of lives, economically, socially, as well as spiritually and morally with no real victories produced in the traditional sense. The scale of problems and catalyst events we’re seeing evolve domestically and internationally both today and tomorrow should be worrisome given the level of malign influence, cognitive and information warfare we’ve been seeing occur and the current state of awareness, preparedness and readiness. Dealing with the new strategic realty will be painful before going forward through hell. Such is the case when going from point A to point B to point C, etc., when chaos, panic, fear, and despair are thrown around as obstacles. Soft times create weakness while hard times creates strength …. if one is lucky in these times we live in? 🤔🤔

Who and what are you surrounded by each day? Yesterday we celebrated the 14th year of 110% Inc. I was asked why I started the company – essentially, what was my “why” (a bit cliche today). I prefer to think about the question in a slightly different way. “What is my purpose in this life and is this it?" The answer is rather simple and may resonate with those of you who work in systems where you experience a collision between your values and those of the organization (or community) so I decided to share this post in the event it may help. My response to the question? At the age of 45 I had a choice to make. Stay in a space where conflicts existed between expectations and my personal values or go in search of a new journey. I had the will and acquired the skills (so I believed) to carve a new path for myself which led to the birth of 110% Inc. When you find yourself in a situation that demands the compromise of what is deeply important to you, you have three options from which to choose. 1. Stay and do what you can to change things for the better. 2. Stay and accept things as they are. 3. Find the door and take the exit. I walked to and through the door simply to stay true to me. When 110% Inc. started, I expected it to always be a one person show - a small business intent on working with others who wanted to change the world. But as time passed, the challenge and opportunity to go from "me" to "we" was just too good to ignore. A small firm by choice, we remain committed to working with those who want to change the world for the better (not those who need to check a box) and who want to do the right thing all day, every day. Purpose. I could not ask for a better group of humans to work alongside. Farrell Buller Matthew David Alexis Rankey I could talk about their character, their gifts, and their hearts all day long...they remind me of purpose always and I am fortunate to be surrounded by them. This group are always excited about the possibilities. They give 110% every single day, care deeply, and are genuine in wanting to help others and the profession to which we have committed our lives – public parks and recreation. Happy anniversary 110% Inc. The place I ultimately found myself after heading out the door. Here’s to what comes next... #110percent #parksandrecreation

We’re beyond grateful for her contributions and the positive energy she brings to the team. Here’s to many more years of growth! Congrats, Jeni on this milestone. 🧡 What do you enjoy most about your role at TLG? I enjoy everyone I work with, from everyone in TLG to the groups within J-U-B. I get to work with really smart, funny, and creative people, and it makes coming to work fun. I also enjoy the wide range of projects I work on, from transportation to water to planning. It keeps my day-to-day interesting, and I learn a lot about various topics. 🧡 What are some of your favorite hobbies or activities outside of work? Outside of work, I love going to concerts. It doesn’t matter what genre of music, I am willing to go. I have six concerts lined up this year, and hopefully, we will add more to the list. 🧡 Can you tell us about a memorable moment or event you've experienced while working here? I will never forget the opening of the West Davis Highway. After years of working on a project and working so hard to put together an opening event, it was amazing to see the event happen and how many people came out to celebrate the opening. In the crowd, I could see the faces of people I had talked to throughout the years, and it was like we had finally made it to the other side. 🧡 What do you appreciate most about the company culture and values? TLG is really flexible. They work with you and make having a work-life balance attainable. Plus, everyone is fun to work with. I’m lucky I get to laugh every day at work. #TLGAnniversary #MilestoneCelebration #TeamAppreciation
