TOP TIPS, TRUTHS & MYTHS -
Orange wine isn’t just a new trend, it’s a glimpse into what wine may have been like thousands of years ago.
So how is it made?
Orange wine is a type of white wine made by extending contact with grape skins (and seeds) during winemaking.
Orange wines often taste more like dry red wines because they have tannin.
How does it taste?
Most orange wines aren’t sweet and have bold, honeyed aromas like fleshy tropical fruit, hazelnut nut, bruised apple, linseed oil, sourdough, and dried orange rind.
On the palate, they’re bold, dry, and have tannin (like unsweetened iced tea) with a sourness similar to a fruit beer.
Because of their natural acidity and tannin, orange wines pair with a wide diversity of foods.
Food Pairing?
Because of their boldness, orange wines pair well with equally bold foods. In fact, some of the best matches with orange wines include foods that are often hard to pair with wine.
For example, the tannin in orange wine helps cut through the bold and spicy flavours found in curry dishes and Indian cuisine.

GRAPE MINI MOMENT - Chardonnay
I tasted this the other day and made me think YEP! Chardonnay is back…
One of the worlds most popular grapes, Chardonnay is made in a wide range of styles from sparkling Blanc de Blancs to rich, creamy white wines aged in oak.
I often say that Chardonnay is a winemakers dream?
WHY?
Its ripens in a range of climates, and has reasonable vigour
BUT Ultimately its about chardonnays malleability…
While winemakers are prone to say that wine is made in the vineyard, however chardonnay loves to be layered with character from winemaking techniques,
The art is all about enhancing without distracting.
Chardonnay gives wine a relatively high level of alcohol which can often taste slightly sweet has played a part in its popularity
and has often seen the use of oak in its winemaking which has added to chardonnays appeal
But what flavours do you get?… it all depends on the where and how
Loosely …
stone fruit
Yellow apple
Pineapple
vanilla
