====Diversity & Inclusion in Polarised Northern Ireland ===== Professionals often speak of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. But what about its prevalence in broader society, especially in places with complex histories like ours? With the reopening of Stormont, it's time to reflect on this. I am a part of the diverse mosaic that makes up our community, and yet, at almost 50 and as a student, I am confronted with barriers that question the validity of my experience and my ability to contribute. My pursuit of education at this juncture is more than just academic; it's a journey to decipher how these societal barriers can be transformed into opportunities for growth and innovation. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam once said: "Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. Where there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world." In this wisdom, there lies a call to action for each of us to cultivate integrity and character. For in doing so, we contribute to the harmony and order of our nation. Let us all be champions of this order, starting with the inclusion of all forms of diversity.

Did you hear about Florida's ban on "woke" corporate training being struck down? Here's what that could mean for #DEI programs in Florida and potentially beyond. The ban, which aimed to restrict certain types of #diversity and #inclusion training in Florida, has been overturned on appeal. This decision is significant because it reaffirms the importance of fostering inclusive workplaces where diversity is celebrated and valued. Now, what does this mean for DEI programs in #Florida? Well, it's a win for diversity advocates and organizations committed to creating inclusive cultures. By allowing companies to implement diversity training programs without fear of legal repercussions, we can continue to make strides towards equality and representation in the workforce. But what about the rest of the country? While this decision specifically addresses Florida's ban, it could have broader implications for DEI efforts nationwide. It sets a precedent for other states and jurisdictions considering similar restrictions, signaling that diversity and inclusion training is not only valuable but also legally permissible. Overall, this decision is a step in the right direction towards building more equitable and inclusive workplaces. #ohio #law #employmentlaw #workersrights #ohiolaw #ohiolawyer

"It remains lawful for employers to implement diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility programs that seek to ensure workers of all backgrounds are afforded equal opportunity in the workplace." U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Chair Charlotte A. Burrows Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Transformation (DIET) is a continuous improvement process to facilitate healthy workplaces for all employees. It requires courage in the face of external pressure: According to the Wall Street Journal, companies are asking their lawyers if and how much they need to change their DE&I initiatives in light of 2023's Supreme Court higher education affirmative action decision. June marks Pride Month in British Columbia, and CLR is proud to emphasize our commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA). Pride Month is a time to celebrate the advancements of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and it serves as reminder to foster diverse and inclusive environments where everyone can thrive by recognizing and addressing privilege. Our AGM in September will focus on transforming the culture within the construction industry. We’re committed to encouraging our industry to be more inclusive and equitable. While diversity is crucial, it's only the first step. True transformation begins with inclusivity, ensuring that everyone feels valued and respected. Privilege plays a significant role in our journey towards inclusivity. Often invisible to those who have it, privilege includes advantages that some enjoy over others, such as social acceptance or freedom from discrimination. Recognizing these privileges is crucial, as it allows us to understand the barriers others face. Michael Bach, an IDEA consultant to BuildForce Canada / ConstruForce Canada, offers more insight into what this looks like here: https://lnkd.in/gfqfaGfQ Despite efforts to attract diverse talent, workplaces often remain exclusionary, leading to higher turnover rates among diverse hires. It's essential to create an environment where everyone, regardless of their background, can thrive. This involves acknowledging and leveraging our privileges to support those who face systemic challenges. We are proud to have members and partners who are making meaningful strides towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all. Let’s work together to build a better, more inclusive industry. Happy Pride!

Juneteenth marks not just the end of slavery, but the enduring spirit of resilience, freedom, and hope. It reminds us of the long journey toward equity and justice, and the importance of continuing that journey in every aspect of our lives, including in business and federal contracting. While I wear many hats, I strive to embody the principles of equity and inclusivity in each of them. Understanding this holiday is formally celebrated today, let us find ways to create impact all year long. A few ideas come to mind: Promote Diversity: Actively seek out and support diverse suppliers and contractors. A diverse supply chain strengthens our community and promotes innovative solutions. Champion Inclusivity: Create an inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and heard. This starts with leadership and permeates through every level of the organization. Mentorship and Sponsorship: Offer mentorship and sponsorship to underrepresented groups in business. Sharing knowledge, resources and access to revenue-generating opportunities can help break down barriers and create additional and potentially unlikely opportunities for others. Advocate for Policy Change: Engage in policy discussions and advocate for changes that promote fair practices and equitable opportunities in federal contracting. On this Juneteenth, let's honor the past and commit to a future where equity is not just an ideal but a reality. Together, we can build a business community that reflects the true diversity and strength of our nation. Happy Juneteenth! #Juneteenth #EquityInBusiness #FederalContracting #DiversityAndInclusion #WeSucceedTogether #BeTheChange
