The University has been awarded £9M for a PhD research and training programme for the next generation of environmental scientists! Over 100 PhD students over the next 5 years will benefit from this money. Head of School Prof Graeme Paton said these students will "deliver novel solutions to the most pressing environmental problems.” The project brings together biological scientists, geologists and other organisations involved in environmental management and policy development. Incredible to see this campaign in Australia to save university Earth Science. The UK is having a crisis in Earth Science education, with falling admissions at school and university level. This is leading to a growing skills gap in critical areas. And a general knowledge gap on the Earth and environment in the general population. Surrey's Royal Holloway, University of London secures new funding boost for PhD students 🎓🪙 Royal Holloway University of London in Surrey revealed it has secured funding, allowing it to support talented bioscience and environmental science PhD students via the Doctoral Landscape Awards (DLA). UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) has announced a £500m investment in several consortia of universities to provide flexible funding to support the students. Royal Holloway is a member of three funded consortia - The London Interdisciplinary Doctoral Consortium (LIDo), the Advanced Research and Innovation in Environmental Sciences (ARIES) Doctoral Training Partnership, and the Training Research and Equity in Environmental Sciences (TREES) Doctoral Landscape Award.
