The more things change, the more they stay the same. I started as a GIS Planning Intern/Specialist at the City of Greensboro. I linked preliminary site plans, site plans, final plats, zoning documents, comp plan documents, and annexations to GIS layers. I created some of the layers and updated others. I moved on to Triangle J Council of Governments (Central Pines) and I did something similar with Pedestrian and Bike trails (amongst other things.) Now, at the Land of Sky Regional Council, I am measuring pedestrian activity along trails and sidewalks throughout our region. I am visiting prior study sites and examining new sites. Reports are accessible through our Multi-Modal/Transportation Demand Management site. I find it interesting how activity can change over days, weeks, months, and years. These reports can be helpful when measuring changes in activity after trail and sidewalk upgrades are made. https://lnkd.in/evTQySSf

I am excited to share a project from my Advanced GIS Applications class last semester! I conducted a New Park Location Suitability Assessment for Chicago, IL, to identify optimal locations for new parks. Utilizing ArcGIS Pro, I analyzed various factors such as current park distribution, thermal radiation, and accessibility to public transit. The project aimed to enhance urban planning by identifying areas that would benefit most from new green spaces, thereby reducing the Urban Heat Island effect and improving community well-being. Key Findings: -Cluster Analysis revealed park distribution patterns. -Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) showed a significant relationship between park land cover and reduced thermal radiation. -Suitability Assessment identified the top 5 locations for new parks, benefiting over 8,000 residents. This project deepened my understanding of urban planning and GIS applications in environmental sustainability. I’m excited to apply these skills to real-world projects! Check out the detailed poster for more insights! 📊🌳 #GIS #UrbanPlanning #EnvironmentalSustainability #DataAnalysis #ArcGIS

📚 Currently working on a course project focused on land readjustment and pooling using GIS tools. This project aims to develop practical solutions for optimizing land use in urban areas, ensuring balanced growth and improved infrastructure. Through detailed 3D visualizations, I’m exploring different ways to manage land parcels, engage with stakeholders, community dwellers and how to incorporate public private partnership (PPP) mechanisms for future development. 🚀 #GIS #UrbanDevelopment #ArcScene3D #LandManagement #CourseProject #SustainableCities

I'm excited to share my third task in the Digital Engineering program with KAITECH on QGIS! I focused on analyzing the relationship between green spaces and digital infrastructure in New York state Through my analysis, I found a strong positive correlation between the locations of public parks and Wi-Fi hotspots, suggesting that smart city design should focus on integrating green spaces with digital services. #GIS #QGIS #SpatialAnalysis #DataVisualization #GeospatialData

Welcome to my channel, Space Remote Sensing and GIS. I hope you're all doing well. Today, we'll be diving into the process of creating gradient directions for studying urban expansion. Gradient direction refers to the direction of the steepest slope in the elevation data, which can help us understand the flow of urban expansion. For example, imagine a city situated in a valley surrounded by hills. The gradient direction will show us how the city is expanding from the lower areas in the valley towards the higher elevations on the hills. By analyzing this, we can see the patterns and predict future growth areas. In the next part of this series, I'll demonstrate how to calculate urban or built-up areas using these gradient directions and distances. This will help us quantify the extent of urban expansion over time. I hope you find these tutorials helpful. Building footprints refer to the outline or footprint of a structure as seen from above, typically represented on maps or satellite imagery. In the context of urban planning, mapping, and geographic information systems (GIS), building footprints are used to depict the spatial extent and layout of individual buildings or structures. The representation usually includes the outer perimeter or boundaries of a building, providing a simplified two-dimensional view of its shape and size. You can get free building footprint data from the following sources: ✅ https://lnkd.in/dCfT4nGD ✅ https://lnkd.in/d7Eraca5

Recent advancements in technology have led to an expanding range of beneficial uses of geospatial information technology in our daily lives. With GIS, city and regional planners can create realistic alternatives for comparing different planning and design scenarios. By combining data about diversity, high-density and mixed land uses, open space preservation, housing affordability, and economic viability into their analysis, maps, and presentations to the public, planners can make more informed decisions. Using all of these data layers together will give you the best information concerning development patterns on any given parcel or group of parcels. Maps and spatial analysis promote a location-centric point of view that is critical to meeting the needs of city residents. #GIS #SpatialAnalysis #CityPlanning #UrbanDesign #DataAnalysis
