Let’s break the silence and make menstruation a topic of empowerment, not embarrassment. So, what can we do? Start with conversations. Normalize talking about periods—at home, in schools, everywhere. Push for better access to products and menstrual-friendly spaces. Most importantly, remind every girl that periods are normal part of your life and momentary transformation in your life. Let’s be our girl’s guide.
Her first period is not a milestone for her to fear, but a moment to celebrate. Let’s teach girls to embrace the beauty of growing up with knowledge, confidence, and pride. This National Girl Child Day let’s honor her journey into womanhood by being her guide. #MaxHealthcare #NationalGirlChildDay #WomensHealth

🖤🤎 #Children are taught to hate. Children are also taught to love. Children can be taught to be accomplices as opposed to growing up and becoming online bandwagon jumpers, slactivists on platforms like Linkedin, Instagram, Facebook, or who engage in trolling behaviours online as adults when it comes to equity, decolonization, anti-racist movements, etc. Children can be taught compassionate care, can be raised to be empathetic and critically aware global citizens. Children can be taught humility, children can be taught to continously be open to learning. #BlackLivesMatter protest in Geensboro (North Carolina), where photographer Kevin Greene snapped this photo of Micheal Harris holding hands with a white child, Emory Lewellyn (4yo), on May 31, 2020. "That’s what it was. It was love being shown through a group of people, working for the same common goals,” he said. “That’s the sustainable change the little girl allowed everybody to see all over the world.” Harris said the moment was spontaneous. Four-year-old Emory Lewellyn ran to him and grabbed his hand. He reached for hers, and now two strangers are now a symbol of unity. “I’m thankful that little girl could touch a lot of people’s hearts,” Harris said." 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 - 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆 Today, we celebrate the #voices, #rights, and #dreams of #children everywhere. This year’s theme, ‘𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱', calls on us to embrace #diversity and build a world where every child feels valued, heard, and #protected—regardless of race, gender, ability, or background. 𝗔 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆: First established in 1954, November 20 holds immense significance. On this day in 1959, the United Nations adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, and in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child followed. These milestones remind us of our global commitment to ensure every right for every child. 𝗔 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Yet, even as we #advocate for #inclusion and #hope, there are countless #children worldwide who lose their lives due to war, genocide, violence, and conflict. Their laughter silenced, their futures stolen. Let us not turn a blind eye to their suffering. Each child lost is a tragedy, and each life spared is a testament to our #humanity. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲: We must unite to leave behind a #safer, #kinder, and more #inclusive world—a world where children thrive without fear. Together, let’s: Protect their innocence. Empower their voices. Uphold their rights. For every child, everywhere, let us ensure that #compassion, inclusion, and #safety are not just ideals but realities. Let’s be the change. Let’s make a lasting difference. The future begins with how we care for our children today.

World Health Organization The International Day of the Girl Child, observed annually on October 11th, serves as a reminder of the significant challenges girls face across the globe, particularly in Nigeria. In a society deeply rooted in tradition and cultural expectations, girls in Nigeria confront unique obstacles that hinder their growth, education, and health. These challenges are not only societal but also deeply tied to their health and well-being, specifically concerning reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and life-threatening conditions like HPV and cervical cancer. Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation The Struggles of the Nigerian Girl Child In many parts of Nigeria, gender inequality begins at birth. Girls are often treated as secondary to boys, with less investment in their education, personal development, and health. Cultural norms discourage girls from being assertive or pursuing careers, as societal pressure places more importance on their roles as future wives and mothers. For many girls, the lack of access to quality education and healthcare limits their opportunities in life, often leaving them vulnerable to poverty, abuse, and poor health outcomes. Health and STI Struggles Sexually transmitted infections, including HPV, disproportionately affect young girls in Nigeria. With limited sexual education and access to health resources, many girls are unaware of the dangers of unprotected sex. The HPV and Cervical Cancer Crisis Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a common infection that is often contracted through sexual contact. In many cases, it is preventable through vaccination and regular screening. However, in Nigeria, the awareness and availability of these preventive measures are limited, especially for girls in rural areas. Cervical cancer, which is closely linked to HPV, is a significant health concern for Nigerian women. Due to the lack of awareness and healthcare infrastructure, many women only receive a diagnosis when the cancer is in its late stages, making it harder to treat. Solutions and Advocacy To address these challenges, there must be a multi-faceted approach that includes education, healthcare access, and community support. As an advocate for HPV and cervical cancer screening, I, Augustina Balogun, have been working tirelessly to raise awareness about HPV and cervical cancer in Nigeria. Conclusion On this International Day of the Girl Child, we must continue to advocate for the rights of girls in Nigeria. They deserve access to quality education, healthcare, and the freedom to make choices that will shape their futures. By addressing issues related to sexually transmitted infections, HPV, and cervical cancer, we can help create a healthier and more empowered generation of girls. My mission, as a lead advocate for HPV and cervical cancer prevention, remains to ensure that no girl is left behind. Augustina Balogun Lead Advocate for HPV and Cervical Cancer Prevention
When women and girls have the tools to lead healthy lives, gain an education, and reach their full economic potential, everyone benefits. The foundation's leaders and staff understand this deeply—thanks to the support they received from their teachers, families, and communities during their own girlhood, they were able to learn and grow. Every girl deserves the same opportunity to realize her dreams. On International #DayOfTheGirl, swipe through to see some of our staff as their younger selves.♀🫶

It doesn’t really matter to report things a little late if you arrive with the right issue and great intent. As we celebrated National Girl Child Day yesterday, the theme "Empowering Girls for a Bright Future " recalled my squirrel efforts in this regard. I remember it was the year 1990- The SAARC Year of the Girl Child. A campaign brief landed on my lap (rather I discovered it accidentally while doing my PG studies by my sheer creativity craving). Under the banner of DAVP—the premier government advertising agency for the Ministry of Women and Child Empowerment. The task? Craft a national campaign to inspire a country to rethink its relationship with the girl child. The timeline? 3–4 hours. I remember opening the file, a thick compilation of reports, data, and notes. It wasn’t just a campaign; it was a call to action. Every line I wrote needed to speak to hearts in bustling cities and quiet villages alike. The Process The first hour was about absorbing the soul of the message: A girl is not just a child. She’s a future. A promise. Then came the challenge: How do you turn a monumental idea into words that stick? ↳ The tone had to be urgent yet hopeful. ↳ The message had to resonate across all languages of the Nation. ↳ The slogans had to inspire pride, action, and change. I distilled the core idea into feelings like: ↳ “Given chance, girl child can soar to unimaginable heights.” ↳ “Nurture Her Dreams, Empower the Nation.” The Outcome To my pride, my words weren’t turned out to be mere slogans—they became a movement. Translated into over a dozen languages, they adorned banners, hoardings, schools, and public spaces, echoing across the nation. That moment taught me the power of clarity, precision, and the right message at the right time. And above all else, delivering a long-term impact message in a critically short time span. Have you ever crafted something that left an indelible impact, under a critical shortage of time? Share your views on what strategies work faster to Empower Girl Child for a Bright Future!! #DAVP #GirlChild #GovernmentofIndia #WordsThatMatter #NationBuilding #EmpoweringGirls #CreativityInAction

Every boy deserves to grow up knowing that kindness, respect, and empathy are his true strengths. In a world that needs allies and advocates for equality, let’s start by nurturing these values early. At the core of our campaign #RaisingBoysRight is a belief that raising boys to be kind, empathetic, and respectful men begins at home. Imagine a generation of men who challenge stereotypes, respect everyone, and stand up for what’s right. This vision starts with us, as parents, mentors, and society. 🌟 Download our guide 'Raising Boys Right' — a practical, age-appropriate framework to empower young boys with the values, language, and tools needed to champion equality. https://lnkd.in/dFQ3Ps2h #RaisingBoysRight #TheBetterIndia #Empathy #BoysForChange #EqualityStartsAtHome #PositiveParenting #KindnessMatters #Respect [Beta Padhao Desh Jagao, Boys For Change, Equality Starts At Home, Positive Parenting]

Happy Universal Children's Day, 2024. Children are not just our future, they are our present and their rights as well as voices are more important than ever. As we celebrate the Universal Children's Day 2024, let us ponder upon this year's strong theme: "Listen. Reflect and Engage." - Listen: Actually hear what children say about their dreams, fears, and hopes. - Reflect on their views and the challenges they face in today's world. - Engage in meaningful ways for their protection and building a safe, healthy, and inclusive world. At Compassion Africa Initiative, every day is a celebration of empowerment for a child. This day reminds us that fostering respect, dignity, and opportunity for children isn't just a duty but a shared responsibility. How to join the conversation? -Advocate for child rights. -Volunteer your time to mentor or support a child. -Create places where children can feel seen, heard, and valued. Let's ensure that every child knows their voice counts and their future is bright. #UniversalChildrensDay #UNICEF
