HR starts when you need people, and HR ends when you do not need people. Fundamentally, everything in HR starts with hiring. The first problem is to find good talents, not "just someone" or "any good girl, we can teach". At a certain point, companies demand characters who will make a difference, drive a function, or lead the change. Recruitment is the first and foremost competence that any experienced HR should possess. Without abilities to find, attract, and hire talented employees, any HR person will have trouble gaining trust and proving that they can deliver. By contrast, one day organizations may not need people anymore, or they do not care about human beings and focus only on the boxes in the organizational charts. Then you do not need an HR as well. Instead, you may hire HR policemen to establish more controls. Or you may even have good administrators to coordinate many (usually useless) processes. But professional HRs?... Na-ah, do not waste your money on HR, better have a team building in the bar! Interviewing many HR candidates last weeks, it is fascinating to see different "faces" of HR in different organizations. Great HR function in companies has its beginning, and in some cases - its end. What never ends, is the humanity, kindness, and fairness toward the employees. And seeing people in people always goes above and beyond the HR competencies, organizational boundaries, and hierarchy. #engagement #culture #change #hr #strategy

Founder & Managing Director @ EuroBridge HR Partners Kft | We bridge world, fostering global expansion while nurturing local engagement
From a Seasoned HR Professional to a Self-employed HR Consultant.从中企外派HR到成立自己的人力资源公司. Two years ago, my paths crossed with Lily when I was involved in an on-site project for a major Chinese industrial client. This client was ambitiously globalizing, necessitating the strategic hiring of 28 Chinese HR professionals to be stationed across the globe. Lily, who had spent seven pivotal years leading HR practices for a Chinese manufacturer in Ethiopia, stood out as an ideal candidate. Her recent return to China, driven by family commitments and leading to a modest local income, simplified our salary negotiations. The hiring process went smoothly, and Lily joined the corporate team at China headquarters. Driven by enthusiasm, Lily desired to interact with global HR strategy, but her intended overseas assignment was delayed indefinitely. Shackled in Beijing, she found herself battling against a detrimental work culture characterized by relentless overtime and an emphasis on formalism over functional business engagement. Despite these setbacks, Lily's resolve did not waver. It took two resignation attempts before the company finally relented and processed her work permit for Ethiopia. Upon her arrival, Lily quickly reacclimated and started to realign HR strategies with the broader business goals, diving deep into recruitment, C&B and talent development. Her previous experience in the region became invaluable as she navigated through the operational challenges, and she relished the opportunity to work in an environment that dynamic approach and genuine contributions were appreciated. However, just as Lily was settling into what she hoped would be a long-term role, financial underperformance in the region led to a drastic cost cutting across the board. This unexpected shift forced Lily’s transition from an employee into the company’s contractor. In a recent conversation, Lily shared her insights into this experience, the realization of a harsh truth: all Chinese companies she had encountered prioritized short-term financial gains over employee well-beings and broader social responsibilities. Disillusioned with relying on such employers for her future, Lily decided to channel her expertise and experiences into founding her own venture—a HR service firm in Ethiopia aimed at helping Chinese clients establish robust HR infrastructures and ensure compliance across Africa. In conclusion, Lily has forged a new path that meets her professional aspirations and offers her freedom and fulfillment that had eluded her in previous roles. As she builds her business, Lily's deep understanding of both the regional and international HR landscapes positions her to make a significant impact. Her journey from corporate uncertainty to entrepreneurial liberation is a compelling reminder of the power of embracing one's skills and turning challenging situations into opportunities. May her continued efforts bring her sustainable success and the life she aspires to lead!

Call ALL HR professionals (HR BP, recruiters (in any industry), HR admins, heads of compensation and benefits, heads of the HR team, Org Psychologists etc.) I will soon start offline MasterMind (MM) for HR professionals in Riga, Latvia. My vision for MM is to establish a professional support group for HR professionals dedicated to addressing real-world problem-solving within the industry and facilitating the sharing of ideas and solutions for contemporary business challenges. I've observed that HR often lacks a resource for guidance when confronted with conflicting information and various perspectives. Frequently, HR professionals find themselves in dilemmas that do not have obvious solutions. As an experienced psychologist, I recognize how difficult it can be to manage ambiguous, challenging, and conflicting situations. My support group, which includes my supervisor and another psychologist, has made this journey significantly easier. A network of HR professionals can help broaden your perspective on various situations, provide alternative viewpoints, or supply pieces of information that may be missing. At times, simply having reassurance about our actions can empower us to proceed with confidence. If you want to be part of this support group, reach me for further details. #hr #mastermind #support #hrprofessionals #businessdevelopment #professionals #recruitment #hradministration #hrbusinesspartners #psychology #organizationalpsychology #business

Happy International HR Day! Today, as we celebrate International HR Day, I want to take a moment to reflect on my journey towards pursuing a career in Human Resources and to appreciate the incredible work of HR professionals everywhere. Aspiring to be an HR professional, I see how tough it can be to handle the trolls and jokes, especially when they are directed personally. HR professionals often smile and move on because, honestly, what else can they do? 😊 Their role involves meeting high expectations and fulfilling tasks set by others, which can be quite unrealistic at times. It's important to remember that HR professionals are human too, with their own struggles and pressures. They are there to support others, even when it's tough. 💪 HR professionals are the backbone of any organization. They are the ones who ensure that the workplace is not only productive but also a positive and supportive environment. They manage recruitment, development, and retention of talent, handle conflicts, ensure compliance with labor laws, and so much more. Without HR, organizations would struggle to function smoothly and maintain a healthy workplace culture. 🌟 I am proud of myself for choosing this profession as my career. The journey has been enlightening and fulfilling, and I am excited about the future and the opportunity to make a positive impact in the field of HR. 🌟 So, on this HR Day, let’s take a moment to appreciate the dedication and hard work of HR professionals everywhere. They help and support the growth of both individuals and organizations. 🌱 Happy HR day to all! #InternationalHRDay #HR #linkedin #humanresource

Reflecting on the HR Journey: On this International HR Day, I find myself reflecting on my 15-year journey in Human Resources—a journey filled with both rewarding and challenging experiences. One of the toughest aspects of being an HR practitioner is the delicate balance between professional duties and personal relationships. Inevitably, there are moments when the "HR cap" must come on, and difficult decisions have to be made. It's during these times that friends at work might feel betrayed or distanced, and maintaining those personal connections becomes incredibly challenging. However, these moments are a testament to the integrity and professionalism required in our field. Our role demands that we uphold company policies and ensure fairness and justice, even when it impacts those close to us. This can be an isolating experience, but it’s a crucial part of maintaining the trust and respect of the entire workforce. To those aspiring to join the HR field, remember that your journey will be filled with opportunities to make a significant impact. The role of HR is evolving, and you have the chance to shape workplaces that are inclusive, innovative, and supportive. Stay committed to continuous learning, embrace challenges, and always lead with empathy. Understand that your decisions can significantly affect people's lives, and strive to balance compassion with fairness. For my colleagues in the field, I offer this encouragement: Your work is the backbone of your organization’s culture and success. Though it may often feel like a thankless job, remember that your efforts in nurturing talent, resolving conflicts, and fostering a positive work environment are invaluable. Lean on your network for support, continue to grow your skills, and take pride in the positive changes you help create. On this International HR Day, let's celebrate our dedication, resilience, and the vital role we play in shaping the future of work. Happy International HR Day! Mumbi Irene Mpuku
