This year's Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr holiday was an unusually busy period for Saudi Arabia's airports. 100 different airlines carried more than 12.5 million people on 86,000 flights including domestic and international, private and commercial. That was an 18% increase in trips and passengers over the same period in 2023. The busiest airports were Jeddah's King Abdulaziz International Airport with 5.38 million passengers and Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport with 3.23 million passengers. What is driving these surging numbers? Open doors. Passenger numbers have been picking up since the Kingdom simplified it's visa services for pilgrims and tourists. Continued investment in the aviation industry in particular and the tourism sector more broadly as the Kingdom pursues its vision to position itself as an industrial powerhouse and important logistics hub should deliver accelerating growth in passenger and flight numbers over the coming months and years.
