The recent EveningNews.in report highlights the central role of pubs as social hubs and vital components of rural life. However, the worrisome trend of pubs closing due to rising costs, second-home ownership and fewer customers threatens to diminish our communities. Beyond the economic impact, these closures risk deepening social isolation and eroding crucial communal spaces. Pubs are not just places for drinks, they are community spaces where stories are told and connections flourish. Preserving local pubs isn't just about business: it's an investment in combatting loneliness, nurturing community bonds, and supporting local economies. Let's rally to support our local pubs — be it through community initiatives, policy advocacy, or increased patronage. It's essential to safeguard the essence of rural life and preserve the unique role that pubs play in shaping our communities. https://lnkd.in/enRmhyfn

In Kansas City, a lot of local restaurants offer deals and freebies whenever the Chiefs win a game (whether its winning by a toe length or a Super Bowl or three). That community spirit sparked an idea for me on how to boost awareness and participation in demand response DR programs. Here’s the pitch: When utilities or VPPs need to call DR events, especially during peak times in the summer, why not partner with local amenities like golf courses, public pools, and recreation centers? Offering free or discounted admission could encourage people to leave their homes, enjoy some leisure time, and actively participate in DR events without sacrificing comfort. Imagine it: Instead of cranking up the AC at home, families could spend a hot afternoon enjoying a swim or hitting the links, thanks to partnerships between utilities, VPPs, and local recreational facilities. It’s a win-win—less strain on the grid and more fun in the sun for everyone. Let's transform the "Dog Days of Summer" into the "DR Days of Summer." This could be an interesting way to increase DR participation while enhancing community engagement and customer satisfaction.

Incredible news! Tee Fabikun, a fearless and formidable pillar of our community, has been honoured with the prestigious Kings Award for #Voluntary #Service. This recognition, bestowed upon only 13 individual organisations in the country, underscores Mama Tee's unwavering dedication to the Carpenters community and beyond. For over three decades, Mama Tee has been an integral part of the #Carpenters #Estate, selflessly engaging and contributing to the betterment of our neighbourhood. Her impact has been nothing short of remarkable! This achievement highlights the invaluable role of community pillars in guiding the transformation of our areas. Here are some key insights: 💫 Prioritise understanding: In community engagement, it's crucial to seek understanding before explaining. By listening to community members first, we can uncover valuable insights that inform our initiatives. 💫 Foster meaningful discussions: Engaging communities in conversations about what works and what doesn't in their neighbourhoods can unveil hidden opportunities for transformation. 💫 Support existing efforts: Not every community needs ‘fixing’. Sometimes, it's about building upon and amplifying the work that's already being done to benefit residents. 💫 Acknowledge consistency: It's essential to recognise and appreciate individuals who consistently contribute to their communities, regardless of the scale of their efforts. Let's celebrate Mama Tee's well-deserved recognition and continue to uplift and support our community pillars! 🏙️ Exploring New Paths for Charlotte's Growth! 🌟 The recent Axios Charlotte article about the transformation of Gibson Mill into a bustling community hub in Concord, NC, opens up a powerful dialogue about the positives of urban development. As Charlotte continues to expand, it's crucial we rethink our city's growth strategies and include urban success in the discussions if we want to be a healthy city. While efforts have been focused on integrating the fringes into uptown, we might be overlooking a golden opportunity: creating regional centers. By developing these hubs, we can attract big businesses and employers, fostering economic growth and community in areas beyond the city center. Let's envision a future where Charlotte grows not just in size but in depth, offering multiple areas that cater to a diverse community. 🌍💼 🔗 READ MORE: https://lnkd.in/e69Jq8eA #charlottenc #charlotte #uptownclt #mecklenburgcounty #rebic #joinrebic #cltcc #concordnc #cabarruscounty #cabarruscountync #gibsonmill #gibsonmillmarket
